Corroded Brake Lines - £1000
2001 Forester went for it's MOT, some of the brake lines are excessively corroded including the rears.
Been quoted £1000 to replace them, and that was assuming it was one of the easier ones (apparently they weren't sure which side and it will cost more if they need to remove the fuel tank)
The garage is reputable but it seems a lot of money.
Any recommendations for a Subaru specialist in Hove/East Sussex that could do this work?

I had my my golf mk3 fail the MOT on corroded rear brake lines. When I took the car to my usual garage (the ones that have serviced the car for years) they could find nothing wrong with the brake lines & MOT'ed the car.
So the moral is .... get a second opinion

He's on about brake pipes for those who mention hoses..
But, yes it does sound a hell of a lot of ££££..!
I take it the forester is a 4 line system, so what's so difficult about it other than maybe moving fuel tank..?

I am a bit suspicious that they have never done this work on this type of car and are way over-estimating or buying expensive genuine parts, to be fair there was some other work required but that was a couple of bulbs and some new brake pads, but even taking those into account it's a lot.
Picking it up tomorrow and will find out, but ringing a couple of Scooby specialists they said they've never come across brake line corrosion on a Forester, but it would be similar to doing it on an Impreza and would take 4-5 hours.

i've done it before on legacys and foresters most owners don't want to pay for the tank to be dropped so you have to reroute the pipes it's not that bad a job to do.

Last set of brake pipes I had replaced were on a renault 25. The dealer did them, replaced with copper and it cost around £100. But the wierd thing about that car wa, Things like exhausts it was cheaper to by originals from the dealer than it was to by pattern from quickfit.

I did the rear 2 pipes on my my96 impreza. From the block that is just behind the rear off side door back to the flexy on both sides which did go over the top of the axle and the pipes cost me £25 to have made up. from the block forward the pipes run inside the car so I wouldnt think corrosion would be an issue.
