Which track do you have in mind. Don't get anything too soft if your venue has an abrasive track. I made the mistake of using R888s at Elvington and they didn't last long. For a smooth track (ie tarmac) a good road tyre would do for a start F1s or T1Rs. For abrasive I'd go with some old Bridgestones either 040s or 070s on s/h standard 17" rims. Its not a concours so who cares what the wheels look like. You can have fun on anything really as ultimate grip isn't particularly necessary.

Easyspace - Thank you for purchasing a service from us or similar will be going on a UK day to see how i fairr, snetterton is a great one to starter ive heard, and is Bedford. and ive been told to avoid Cadwell park, great track, but not a place to find out if you're cut out for trackdays (tricky, with no run off, much like the nurb)

If you havn't done a track day before then its advisable to start with an airfield (ie Bedford rather than Snetterton). If you make a mistake on an airfield you just slide out with no harm done, at a proper circuit you may be unlucky and hit some armco. Track day insurance is expensive in my view so I just take the chance. I only started last year and have done 4 days at Elvington but am planning Cadwell in the spring. Went to look at Cadwell last weekend and it looks daunting but also huge fun.
Hope you enjoy it and get the bug like me.

Agree with Finchyboy. For starters OE rims are simplest. I have OE gold rims, PFF7s, and TD Pro Race 1.2s in my arsenal. (and not much room left in my garage).

My first outing was on road tyres and standard rims, didn't even kill all four tyres.... fronts were ready for the bin after a day or so after ! LOL
Dunx
P.S. D1CCY would advise going to 40 psi all round, gives less grip, but tyres last longer.

Dunx, a big thumbs up for remembering my previous post about pressures.
I currently use 40 front and 36 rear set cold. After beating it around track I've checked the front pressures hot and they go as high as 47 and I don't let them down. Mike Wood supports this idea if you can find the old post where he contributes on this issue.
High pressures stop the outside edges of the front tyres being ripped to pieces. 22mm front ARB also helps as it stops the car grinding over onto the loaded corner.
