Default Tyres help for Donington Park

I need some of your expert advice on what to do for my first track day in a couple of weeks.

I've got a year old wagon with some standard bridgestone re50's on that have 5mm left all round.

I'm hoping to use these for the track day and then replace them assuming they've warn out afterwards.

Is this the best approach or should I try and source some track tyres and rims in the next couple of weeks ?

Thanks in advance..

You can have plenty of fun on RE050s especially for your first outing. May not give ultimate grip but won't be too bad when nice and hot. I've used RE040s and R888s for track days so far and although the R888s give more grip (and cost a fortune) I have had just as much fun on the RE040s.

Wouldn't expect you to lose more than a couple of mm in one track day (fronts wear worse than backs due to standard understeer) unless you slide the car about in a lunatic fashion. If the bug bites then you'll be looking for brake and suspension mods (to get rid of understeer) before you worry too much about tyres. Go with your plan to use the 050s and enjoy.
