Question Disc sizes.

I hope this doesnt seem like a silly question but could anyone here tell me what size discs are on my car.
Its a 03 model Wrx. I am thinking of replacing the discs as well as pads to increase braking power.
I only got the car very recently and it was fitted with 18 " OZ wheels when I got it , I was wondering would that make any difference if I wanted to fit larger discs than were originally fitted to the car.

You can get bigger discs under 18" wheels than under 17" wheels. With the AP racing kits as an example they use 330mm discs for their 17" wheels kits and 355mm discs with their 18" wheel kits.

Changing discs is therefore an option but to do this you'll need new calipers as well or keep the original calipers and mount them out a bit. Check out godpseed for the latter I think he does a kit to do this.

For a complete caliper and disc kit you've got a huge range from about £600 to £1600. What do you use the car for, road only, track days, sprints for example and what's your budget?

thank you for reply Chelspeed.
In answer to your question I only use it for road use ,most of my driving is done on rural roads as I live in the country,It might seem extreme to want to improve braking capacity to such an extent but I feel the brakes currently are not up to the cars performance .
I really like the car and feel better brakes would make for a better and safer driving experience.
Budget isnt limitless of course ,but its more important to me to feel safe driving the car quickly so therefore my main priority is to get an effective braking system.

I agree with WRX brakes, my 20 year old Sierra cosworth feels better under braking, so I am same as you I need confidence in the brakes before I improve performance, saying that though my sierra is not standard on brakes, but was the best mods I did on the car, but am unsure if to upgrade WRX brakes or just bite the bullet and fit sti discs and calipers, It all depends on value for money at the end of the day,

Hi
The most popular kit I have ever made is our 335mm kit to use with the standard Subaru 4 pot calipers , the kit uses our own 335mm x 32mm 2 piece disc and bell , it comes with the mounting bracket and fitting kit , and larger than standard pads , we can supply you different pads depending and how you drive , and wether your going to do track days. The discs come grooved as standard

The full kit is £625 and will totally transform your brakes , we also sell kit using AP calipers , and this kit is on par with a same sized kit using AP 4 pots , but a lot cheaper. It will also fit under the standard 17" wheels.

Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

Hi Ian - the £625 option above, I take it this does nothing to the rears? i.e. leaves them as standard.

The 335mm kit is just a front kit , we have various options for upgrading the rears , ranging from grooved discs and better pads , to 325mm discs with AP 4 pot calipers , for normal fast road use , would wouldn't need to touch the rears as the fronts do 60-70% of the braking

Ian - my 03-plate WRX never goes on track, i'm just looking for something with a wee bit extra 'bite' than the standard parts, without spending huge amounts of cash. The engine is standard & likely to remain so, so your 335mm kit would seem ideal.

How easy is it to fit - i.e. could a keen amateur fit the kit?
