Default New Brakes

Hi, I have a FSTi (07), have been thinking about upgrading the brakes on it from the current Brembo ones. Now not being very techinical (please) can any one advise on what the options are. Have thought about the Porshe Brakes (with the Porshe logo painted over), some one said that you have to upgrade the back ones as well, but I didnt know whether the current brakes would be ok. Any advise appreciated. Thank you

Just upgrading the discs and pads to something like Performance Friction will stop any fade, but won't get rid of the poor feel that the brembo calipers offer.
Is there a reason why you ned to upgrade the brakes?

You can also upgrade the hoses to braided ones and there is something about a bracket that you can fit to stop the master cylnder? moving? cant remember it precisely but thats suppose to give you more feel and upgrade the fluid to a good 4.1/5.1

Reason for thinking about changing them is on those occassions when you think - oh god I am not gonna stop in time, I had an M3 before this car and those brakes were amazing you really knew you were going to stop in an emergency - whereas the Forester brakes you slam your foot down.... and start praying. Dont get me wrong I dont drive like a crazy looney but there has been occasssions where I have needed to slow down a lot quicker than there is road, ie when a tractor comes round a blind bend on my side of the road.

The car has braided brakes pipes already, is the fluid something I can get the local Subaru garage to do?

Definately go for the 2 piece Performance Friction disc and their awesome Z rated fast road Pads!
They will stop any fade/vibration and they WILL help with feel as you will be upgrading from the compound you have in there already.
Its an awesome package, have a search on here for the posts on them!
Heres one....

Go for a change of pads, though grooved discs (not drilled) will also reduce (if not stop) any brake fade (though its still best to go for a floating disc/bell setup). Uprated brake fluid (performance fluid either a 4.1 or 5.1) will be better with the heat and stop it from boiling.
The only real problem I had with my Spec C was that the pads were a bit tempremental in deciding how much bite they were going to give you, the brake setup itself has proved to be quite worthy as tests have shown it outbrakes alot of other "higher" performance cars

Pagid Blues, hoses and Fluid with standard discs should do the trick for you. No need to spend a fortune unless you really hanker after something fancy (APs?). I'm suprised you rated the M3 brakes as most I've looked at only have a 2 pot sliding caliper so can only be overassisted with some harsh pads, will feel good with initial bite but will wilt under serious use.

Thanks for all the above, have forwarded it to my brother as it makes more sense to him. I did like the M3 brakes dont know the technical bits behind it all but they felt very responsive. Thanks again

OK thinking about putting either the porshe ones or the AP racing 6 pot on the front - can anyone tell me what I need to do with the rear brakes, can I get away with just a pad upgrade or does it need more? Thanks

Jenn, I'm using std rear brembos fitted with Pagid Blue pads and AP 330mm 6 pots front also with PBs and it works fine in my 03STi Impreza.

Count D, Alyn at ASPerformance does the range of Pagid pads for AP 6 pots, prices vary with pad choice, all published on his website. I paid £130 for Pagid Blues for my 5570 calipers, a lot cheaper than DS2500 replacements. I imagine he will also be able to supply Pagids for the 7040 and Porshe calipers.
