Default Just how good is the 356mm AP Racing 6 pot kit?

As above really guys.

Ive been expecting an Alcon kit for the last 9 weeks and after being messed about ive decided to order the APs instead.

I kinda feel a little cursed with the whole brake thing now as its gone on for so long.

I guess im asking if i will be 100% happy with my purchase.

These will be fitted to my 2002 STi...

Cheers

Just get them you wont be dissapointed trust me !
They are the best of the best in terms of stopping power and quality, to really appreciate them you will need to do a trackday or two thats when they really come into their own, i cant get mine to fade even with an astonishing amount of abuse

frayz - The 4 pot system is supposed to be better than the 6 pot and will fit under 17's too.

Yeah i know that Dunc... I think the 4 pot is better on the lighter classics but i think the heavier newage will benefit from the 6 pot.

I know i could of had the 330mm 6 pot kit with the braced caliper but TBH i wanted to go bigger.

gary from APT has the AP 6 pot kit on his evo and that can stand on its nose.

Lovely piece of kit and will cross brake upgrades off the list for good

Well i hope so.

I spoke to Ears Motorsport today and they siad they were going out to me today,. Hopefully should have them first thing Monday morning.

Ive also opted for them in black as opposed to the usual red for the 356mm kits.

I have the black ap 6 pot 330mm on my newage sti and they are supposed to be the best brakes you can buy for the scoob, lighter than the 356mm and far superior to brembo or shi*tty 4 pots.

Mine stops on a penny

I have the 356mm with 6 pots and braided hoses and ds2500 pads. Really really good you will tell the difference straight away. No sort of "I think it's better" .... chalk and cheese ..... If your handling mods up to it too, then fantastic!

Handlings pretty dialed mate although a set of KW V3's are next on my "to-do" list.

I have been told by a Porsche tuner @ Silverstone the 4 pot's use a better caliper something to do with it's ability to dissapate heat or something!
Im not sure what he is going on about half the time anyway so of course I could be wrong!
His mate has just bought a Carrera GT and they have done trackdays in it so he must have a pretty good idea i guess!

My only concern with the 356 kit is the unstrung weight issue..!

Having recently had a AP 4pot/330 kit fitted to my 05 WRX (340bhp) I can echo the posts about night and day, chalk and cheese etc..!

As someone else said, this is one of them rare mods you immediately KNOW it's better, not 'think' it's better..!

See my post about my experience two weeks in..

BTW I'm running 18's so could have had the bigger kit, which is actually cheaper than the 4pot/330 kit, but the weight issue is important IMHO. However, I don't do any track days. Maybe the 330/6 pot would be better (although I can't imagine how) for hard track use..?

i was getting conflicticting reports on the 330vs356 and 6vs 4pots so i rang ap racing dead simple, bigger disc more stopping power and 6 is better than 4. they also said if anybody disputes this please give them a ring and ask for technicle, after all they only make them

Exactly - 330mm IMHO would be best suited to road due to the weight saving and 356mm to track.

thankfully i put my trust in rcm and i have the 356 or 355 same as the gobstopper, so i again say if your not sure ring ap, they desinged these brakes for fast road, surely that tell you something? if not stick to your 330s

Thats why the 330mm kits are dearer than the 356mm ones

http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog...0502d9ff175fb9

They are both great kits anyway and im sure the 356mm ones will brake superb

It's good to know the kits that we directly help AP Racing develop are so highly regarded still.

Just to clarify a few points though.

The 4 pot kit's aren't "better", There are now a variety of kits, particularly with different discs and caliper combinations. The 330mm 6 pot kit uses a different disc to the 356mm kit.(in fact most of the major components are different).

To be honest, if you're looking for benchmarks, the 330mm 4 pot kit is good enough for pretty much anything, and the pads are markedly cheaper and in greater manufacturer options than the 6 pots. If you get a larger disc and or 6 pots upwards, to gain maximum benefit you need to be running full slicks.

The 330mm 6 pot kit has around 33% (from memory) greater pad area than the 330mm 4 pot kit but with the same disc.

There are not kits on the market that perform better than this either. Check the cost of the Alcon replacement discs as well.

In early development testing (1999/2000) even the 16" 304mm disc 4 pot kit, was seeing circa 8 seconds per lap better times at Dono over OEM 4 pot kit, with no fade at all. In fact pictures from that testing still run on AP Racing promo literature, complete with orange glowing discs.

Well guys im just home.

Yes we got some APs and...

YES they fitted beautifully... Not had any time to use them but theyre all on and bled.
They really do look like a proper bit of kit, something the cars needed for a while now.

I really hope theyre as good as people say, they certainly look stunning and fill my 18s completely. Nice in the black finish too. Not often seen in the 356 kit.

Got the DS2500s in for now, as the F2s were.... belive it or not. Wrong

Oh well.. at least she has brakes at last.

Now just mapping and geometry to complete
