The 330mm 6 pot caliper is a race design caliper.
The 356mm 6 pot caliper is a road design caliper.
Hence why the 356mm kit is cheaper.

Isn't that a custom setup though, not the off the shelf 355 kit..?

Obviously the std kit is going to work very..

The rear setup on the Gobstopper is more of a custom setup, with it being a GrpN spec setup.

My car, although wearing its new stoppers hasnt been driven yet.

Its off the road untill its taxed on the 1st July. After that it needs a mapping tweek as its now got a set of different headers and some 740cc injectors.

My geometry was redone today since having the front hubs off for bearing/hub replacements. Still setup for track.. but it drives nice

Approx 2 deg neg camber all round, slight toe out on both axles too. Dont have rthe exact spec in front of me.. but Zak @ Mocom Racing always sets it up for me and it handles like its on rails. Virtually endless grip and turn in thats pinpoint

Although i can see a set of KW Variant 3's coming along soon.

Once she's mapped i'll have it back, hopefully mid point this week.

Looking forward to it as i havent driven it for over 9 weeks now

Ive got the AP 330mm 6 pot - great bit of kit (and up for sale too soon BTW!) Pads - have tried a lot and the best by far for track use are the Pagid RS29 - NO FADE WHATSEVER and yet very drivable everyday. Good life too (they are an endurance pad). Highly recommended. Had the DS2500 previously and they still faded.

Any AP agent or dealer can supply. The black is just an option.

They're a special order though and I was quoted 6 weeks from order, not usre if that's just for the black with the reds off the shelf or if they're both special order.

My quote was from BG Developments in Bromsgrove.

For fitting they're dead easy. Any half reasonable DIY'er could fit them, and if you're not half reasonable then any local garage could, no need to go to a main stealer or a scoobie specialist.

I have the 355mm 6pots & d2500's and IMHO they're amazing. One thing I did notice was the extra rotating mass of the discs through the steering, It did feel heavier. But I'm used to it now and would'nt change them for the world.

Well my only current gripe is the DS2500s.

After bedding them in properly i can still get them to fade on the road without too much trouble, im swapping them out for DS3000s.

Dont mate i had the ds3000 on my old classic and they wrecked my alloys, was like tiny hot iron filings came off them when breaking which embedded into the alloys and couldnt get them out.

My alloys will be coated with sealer and will be cleaned regularly so it shouldnt be a problem

There's something wrong with them then.
We run DS2500's in our 620BHP demonstrator, and have not managed to fade them even on track yet!

Don't use DS3000's unless you're happy to have to refurb your wheels and paintwork at a later stage.

Prodrive had major problems (in the Prodrive Alcon kits) with red hot particulates shedding in use whch were hot enough to burn into the lacquer coating on both wheels and surrounding body paintwork, which then went rusty, tainting everything they'd embedded to.
They would burn through whatever coating you applied!

Not pretty!

TOLD YA

I also have a set of AP 6 Pot Racing calipers, 330mm Discs and DS2500 on my newage STI running roughly 400bhp and never had one instance of fading.

You must have a dodgy set or something.

Hmmm okay guys, i'll take your advise, what pads would you recomend for track then?

I was gonna just use the DS2500s for the road and swap em out for the track.

BOB5,

Rears are stock discs with EBC Yellowstuff Rs

The car has goodridge stainless braided lines all round and Motul RBF600 fluid.

The problem i have is not fade like i would normally associate fade, but you can feel the brakes go "off" and then they hum loudly with the discs grooves. Its like theyre working beyond their efficiency. At no point has my pedal gone to the floor like a wodden block but certainly the pads are working way out of their temp range.

This is taking place on the road when pressing on, i havent even got her near a track yet

Yes Ayln they were bedded in correctly with proper heat cycling as recomended.

The problem i have now is what do i replace them with??

Mintex F2's?
Mintex F4's?
Performance Friction?
Pagids?
DS3000 (although strongly recomneded against getting these by a few people now)

Sounds like the pads may be glazed. Try bedding them in again.

Frayz, there is something else wrong there mate without a doubt!

I've ran full days at Donington (very brake heavy) with NO fade whatsoever on DS2500's.

Either the pads are really low and the remaining small amount of pad material is having trouble dissipating the heat away, the pads are non-genuine(is that possible) or it could be the fluid degraded or brake system needs bleeding fully?

Mike
