Best 17inch tyres
#1
Contemplating buying some 17inch wheels, what tyres would be best to go with them?
I think it is 205/45/17 that are recommended size but I have heard of 215/40/17 is there any point going wider??
Anyone know best make to go for and cost I should be paying?
Any help appreciated

What year??
Got 215/45/17's on MY01. Choice came down to Bridgestone S02 or S03, Toyo T1-s or Goodyear Eagle F1's for me. Got the Toyo's in the end as I've got the same on my kit-car - nice and progressive on the limit (wet or dry) so a bit easier to catch - even with RWD and 300bhp/ton.
Would be wary getting the S02's now personally. Simply down to what if you get a puncture in a few months time - how long is the current supply going to last??

JGM2,
I believe they will be bringing out a S04 which will be more of a direct replacement for the S02 than the S03 (confusing I know!!). There has been a lot of threads on the various merits of the different tyres (shame the search facility is down) and it seems to boil down to the S02 being the best alround performer but wears down pretty quickly (soft and stickier rubber). The S03 seems to be getting some mixed reviews but overall good but not as good as the S02's. The Toyo and the Eagle F1 seem to offer very similar performance.
