I have always liked the wheels even before they were fitted to the RB5, and I am currently after a set, but what are they called?

Any help appreciated

ho ho JGM

PS: Anyone know where I can get some?

think they are called Speedline Chrono, made by Speedline Corse.

could try scooby dealer but they might not sell you them unless you have an RB5, other places would be demon tweeks, wheelbase, other online wheel retailers.

what wheels are you after?

I just found I can get them for 780 with tyres brand new...
but the wife has just reminded me that I was suppose to be spending the same amount as it would cost for four new tyres... not double... doh!

What wheels? umm, well there's the question. I like the look of OZ F1 cup, but don't think they come in scooby offset Also like look of Superleggra, but seems, much like the OZ SuperT that everyone is getting them, and thus I want to be a little more unique, thus the BK Racing 238 in black stainless looks nice. Basically I'm looking for anthracite type wheels to contrast the black color of the car. Don't want gold as it don't do that thang for me. Some Khan RSR's might be nice, or the Dare eqivlenets.

Real reason for the wheels is to get better brakes, I'm looking at AP 4-pot or maybe 6-pot kit, or maybe the movit porsche setup (seriously cool, plus about same price as AP 4-pot kit)

decisions, decisions.

oh, and the cash to buy it all would be nice as well (donations welcome!)

Sounds cool...

What will you be doing with the old wheels you currently have?

:-)

could be a sort of donation maybe....

hmm, not sure what to do with old wheels. probably post in private section of the bbs when I have new ones, or get the guy at my garage to try and sell them. not sure what state the tyres will be in though.

I do know that STi 4-pots should fit under them, so could be a nice trackday set of wheels.

Tis a pity as I do like the wheels, rather unique, only imports seem to have them. if only you could get them in 17 inch/

Company is called Wheelbase (www.wheel-base.co.uk).

I don't know what the tyres were, something I needed to check.

Guys
The Speedline chrono is not fitted to the RB5. The wheel which is fitted is very similar, but it will allow you to fit the 4 pot calipers.

Prodrive have an agreement so that Speedline will not to sell the RB5 wheel in this country.
I have a set in Gold, which were on the car when I bought it (it’s a jap import). Apparently they can be bought in Japan but they come with a slightly different offset (according to Mike @ Prodrive).

I’m sure if you could find a friendly Subaru dealer they could get you some.

Cheers
Iain

PS I used a pic that was posted on the bbs for the RB5 wheel – if its your pic hope you don’t mind.

Yes I am aware that the RB5 wheel is a modified slightly..

Basically a work college back in 97 bought a new scooby and then got the gold 17inch Speedline wheels fitted by the Subaru dealer..

That was before the 4pot calipers...

This was the car that first got me into Turbo cars and then Scoobies... It was a four door in Dark Metalic Green with these gold wheels and it looked so good back then... I now have a 5 door in DMG and my current 15inch tyres are getting low...
So I ideally want some 17inch Speedlines in gold... and fitting over 2pot calipers only, so the Chrono fits the bill... except the money bill.. suppose to be saving for a house move hence I have not already ordered 780pounds worth of wheels.. considering 16inch rims... but think I shall wait until the new year when hopefully someone might be selling the genuine article at a reasonable price. I can hope...

No worries mate
Just thought I would point out the RB5 is a completely different wheel to the Chrono.
I think they are a fair bit more expensive to.

Chrono’s come up on the bbs all the time. The reason for this is that people like them for the looks then they realise that the 2pots are crap. So when the upgrade the brakes they need new wheels as well.
Something you might want to think about if you plan on keeping the car for a while.

Iain

They probably are fairly heavy Larry...

I am really happy with the 2pots... perhaps I am getting old..
I think they are the best brakes of any of the cars I have had...

I shall keep that in mind though..

Seen two nice sets of 16inch rims on the board so might have a look after Xmas.

Yee, no problem!
The closest I could find to an RB5 wheel is the Speedline Race/Rally 'Corse' Competition wheel but it doesn't have the centre of the spokes cut out.

rbehny,

Yup - the RB5 wheels clear the OE 4 pots (I think all RB5s have 4 pots as standard being MY99 on). They also have enough clearance to cover the Prodrive Alcon set up and other aftermarket set ups too.

Don't know how heavy they are - never weighed them and they're in a mate's garage at the mo awaiting refinishing.

If you get a quote for a new set of 4 from a friendly dealer, you're looking at between 750 and 800 quid, including VAT, but no tyres! I managed to get mine for 300 quid secondhand from the Private forum - they do come up for sale very infrequently though.

Hope this helps a bit.

Cheers,
Steve

thanks spider. I'm looking for a new set of wheels and this sounds like a great candidate. I'll be looking around in the private lot. Thanks,

Maybe I can try and help...
The wheels fitted to the RB5 are a Speedline wheel which was produced for Prodrive specifically for the RB5. The wheel type was also available in Japan under the model name PreoR, but in a lower offset to the proper RB5 wheels. This is why it is sometimes seen on imports. The wheel is often confused with the Speedline Chrono, but is quite different when placed side by side. The RB5 wheel does fit the STi 4 pot's, the Chrono doesn't.
It is not officially available in the UK other than from Subaru UK.
Hope that clears it up for you.

That is pretty much the conclusion I was coming to..

Still I am looking at some 16inch wheels tonight....
would love the 17inch Speedlines but my budget will not stretch that far...especially with insurance renewal next month.. also probably best not to go too flash else I'll be scared to park it anywhere.
