What brakes, dont want to skimp!!
Hey guys
With all the plans i have for the car over the next year i thought id ask about the brakes as i feet there a fairlt important part of upgrading the car!!! I've already donr the suspension ready for the power but not too sure about what brakes!
Its a MY96 STi 2 and i've already done the 4 pot front conversion, what would be the next stage. Im not too worried about price jus want to get an idea of how much to save!!
When you put these bir brake kits on like AP or Willwood do you do the rears aswell. Think it would look a bit odd if not!!!
Any advice appreciated

AP 6 pots. Nothing else compares. Need at least a 17" wheel as well so factor that in if you haven't already.
As for the rears some leave them alone, the fronts do most of the work anyway. You can however upgrade to the two pots off the new age or possibly the Brembos off the STI with some sort of adaptor plate.

If you're going for broke, I'd use AP 6 pots. They seem to be the best of the best. You also might want to upgrade the rears to keep the brake bias in check. Car tends to feel kind of squirrelly with a massive front brake kit and the factory rear setup. I noticed a huge difference when putting better pads in the rear than the front.

I run Ap 6 pots up front they aren't cheap but they are the best in my opinion. For what it's worth i run the standard new age 2 pot subaru rear calipers which work well with the 6 pot AP fronts.

One argument I've seen is that more front brakes means more weght transfer to the front under braking. So with huge front brakes you need less rear brakes to avoid locking the rears not more rear brakes. Leaving it standard on the rear is a good (cheap) compromise.

I definitely agree on the weight transfer with a bigger front kit and the standard rear setup. You can feel the car "throw" you forward.
Some argue that you can (or even should) run equally sized brake rotors in the rear because our cars are AWD.

Chelspeed, the reverse of what you say is true....................
to counter the extra weight transfer you need to balance the rear brakes with a better set-up rather than forgetting about them..........will solve the "squirrely" feeling and allow the car to be more stable in all situations....

If like you say, you don't want to skimp then it's AP all the way.
Go for the 6 pot 355mm front kit and the 4 pot 335mm rear kit. Stopping power will enter a whole new level.
IMO when it comes to brakes I think you should go all out and have the best available.

Save yourself a £1000 and go down this route.

If you can afford to be wearing through those at a vast rate then please tell me where the money tree is
