Default 07 STI - Ride quality on different tyres

Hi

I just been for an extended test drive in the latest STI and found the ride was extremely firm when going down bumby country lanes. Now whilst I appreciate this is what these cars are about, I'm wondering how much of this is down to the tyres as the new car will be used for every day transport.

So, if anyone has swapped the standard Potenza 070 tyres to something a little less extreme (eg Goodyear F1s) I would appreciate your comments on ride.

Cheers

Graham

STI has a very firm ride. I can't see tyres making that much difference.

Maybe a wrx (with ppp?) would suit more?

ok i have'nt got a 07 but i do have the last of the my05sti's and have driven a 07sti.as far as i know both came with the same tyres/wheels as standard.....i was'nt happy with the bridgestones so i swaped the rims for 18" prodrives with p-zero nero's.transformed the car, maby not in outright grip"the potenza really are super sticky tyres" but the comfort was a hell of a lot better and easier to live with by far.

Changing tyres has effect on ride quality. The walls of Potenzas are extremely firm as my local tyre fitter will collaberate after he tried to get them off my 02 Sti. Proxies provided a much better ride.

Ride was still too firm though, fitted AST suspension and never looked back.

I went from 17" 070s to 18" F1s on my 06 STi mate, huge improvement in ride quality as far as everyday commuting is concerned.

Kept my original 17" alloys and 070s for any future track days though, without a doubt they will come into their own then!

Fitted 235x45x17 on my STi MY06 to replace the bridgestones and totally transformed the ride much easier to live with.

Smudga

Would you fill in what your 235x45x17 are please?

Now considering doing away with the STI suspension and going for the AST Stage 3 kit from Powerstation. Just seems to be a travesty to remove brand new suspension!

Just changed mine 06 sti Re070 to Michelin Pilot sport 2`S 235 x45x17
a much smother ride for everyday drive and better wet grip but not as good for dry grip and they seem a bit wallowey but no tramlining that the Re070`s are renowned for.

Probably would and I could get the sunroof too but not the same as an STI - even a toned down Spec D!

No dccd though.

Whilst the idea of DCCD sounds good, what real benefits are there in having it? Do those that have it "use" it after the novelty wears off or just leave it in auto?
