Question Are Goodyear F1 GDS3 really prone to splitting?

I have searched the forum for tyre choices and I really like the sound of the F1 GDS3 but notice a few people complaining about them splitting. I am quite picky about the look of the tread pattern and so don't like the Toyo T1Rs. I do like the T1S's though.

I want good dry and wet grip, reasonable wear (15k) and I do like to hammer round the twisties so they do get used

So, question is - For a MY05 WRX PPP with standard wheels (215/45/17), should I go for the F1's and not worry about them splitting OR should I consider T1S's?

Thanks - so F1's it is. Can I take it they are reasonably quiet and OK in the wet in your experiences then?

This is of interest to me as I was going to buy Toyo T1Rs but I`m now swaying towards the F1 GDS 3s. Has anyone actually owned a tyre that has split or have people just 'heard' of them splitting? I will be ordering them from Blackcircles, but they don`t specify a load rate only 235/40/R18 Z (05 STI PPP). Is this ok?

I found mytyres.co.uk cheaper. Just checked out yours and they work out at 103 each (that's 22 less than blackcircles per corner!)

I am sick of the road noise from the Bridgestone Pot's...hoping the F1's are much better.

Cheers mate. I was drawn to blackcircles as they have a trustworthy fitting centre near by.

I've had three sets of F1's in the last few years, GS-D2 and GS-D3 and I've never had any issues with them at all. They were streets ahead of Toyos in the wet.

F1's all the way. Fantastic in wet and dry (little bit of give) and were brilliant in the snow today. Got mine with tyres from rarerims.co.uk this time at a real good price. There is a reason the police used to have them as the tyre of choice on all motorway cars.

Worth noting that mytyres use old European stock - I got a set of Michelins off them and when they turned up they'd been sitting around for 2 years already (manufacturing date on sidewall!)

I had mine split on a classic- problem was the load rating.
The F1s were 83Y but needed to be 87Y. Think the problem is only with 215/40/17. Just make sure the numbers are the same or higher on the tyre

The load rating for 235/40/18 is 91 if this helps anyone.

I swear by Goodyear F1's. I've always put them on my cars since discovering how good they were, nearly 8 years ago! Even chucked out some nearly new p-zero 18's for a set!
I do prefer the older/original versions though.

My mate had GDS3 215/40/17's split on his scoob about 6 months ago after about 5 or 6k miles. Luckily were spotted on the MOT, otherwise could have been dodgy! Goodyear gave a refund though.

I won't let it put me off though, just keep an eye on 'em.

I've had a couple of set in the past, the last set I got 25K out of them, saying that they were very worn and wouldn't of passed an MOT!!!!!!

Had no problem what so ever, Great in the Dry and Awesome in the Wet.

I've got Toyo's on at the moment, purly because they came with the wheels, They are an okay set of tyres, stick well and not bad in the wet but not as good as the F1's.

Get some, you won't be disapointed

Thumbs up

I had a set split on me last year. BUT, Goodyear were great about it. Two of my tyres were ok, two split. Goodyear replaced the whole lot! I believe the splitting was something to do with where they were manufactured.
As for how good are they........MINT!!!!!
