Random tyre madness!!!
Ok..
I bought a 02 bugeyed WRX last Saturday and my usual observational skills had obviously completely escaped me when I was looking at the tyres! (No mentioning of the lights please!)
After cleaning it last week I’ve noticed that I have completely random tyres all round the car!!!
At the back: I have a Goodyear Eagle GS-D2 on the left and a Bridgestone RE050 on the right
At the front: I have a Michelin Pilot Sport on the left and another Eagle GS-D2 on the right!!
Yikes I hear you cry!! I’ve always been told that you, at the very least need to keep each axel on the same make/model of tyre!
So to try and restore some sanity to the situation I have come up with the following plan…
I’m going to move the Goodyear that’s on the front right to the back right therefore having two Eagle GS-D2s the same there (both have about the same 5/6mm worth of tread left)
This then leaves me with the Bridgestone (swapped with the back) and the Pilot Sport up front. The Michelin has plenty of tread left in it (approx 7/8mm) and the Bridgestone (must be the original tyre as the car has only done 26k) is indeed of replacement so I’m going to put a brand new Pilot Sport on there. This will then leave me with 2 Goodyears on the back and two Michelins on the front.
My main questions are: Are the wheels the same front and back, offsets etc.. (I’d assume they were but always best to check!) and will mixing a new tyre with a partially worn one be ok up front?
Any advise/comments welcome and sorry if I’ve made it sound really complicated!
Cheers
Ben

You can switch wheels / tyres front to back with no problems.
I think your plan is about the best iption available to you, using what you have.
But a lesson to us all.
My mate recently bought a BMW M3, also fitted with a mix match set of tyres
3 x 235/40's
1 x 215/40

Tell me about it! Had to do an emergency stop on a roundabout this morning as some twit was turning right at a round about not signalling and in the left lane! Was a close call I can tell you and the car really didn't feel like it wanted to stop in a hurry!
