Thumbs up Just realised that my front tyres

Have lasted 30,000miles ... Michelin Pilot Sports, need replacing in next 500 miles or so.

Been rummaging through my bills and service invoices - it's service is due now.

I am about to buy some new Front Brake discs and pads from Subaru - I guess that 67,000miles out of the originals isn't bad and therefore worth buying Subaru parts now?

Just thought I would report at what can be achieved on these cars if the owner/driver can actually drive properly and treat the vehicle with a lot of mechanical sympathy. I must add that the mileages achieved are not good for me - the car must be a brake and tyre eater in reality.

I know you've probably got your lines of defence all ready, but can you possibly explain why you bought a turbo model? Why not drive a car that is even cheaper to run if you do not enjoy the 200+ bhp that you have?
Just can't see the point myself.

I enjoy it

I drive it properly thats all

Really, it doesn't actually HAVE to be driven like a Racing car ALL the time - believe me, I know these things!

I've just bought Subaru Pads and Subaru Discs .... I didn't want to pay their prices, but, you cannot argue with 66,510miles out of pads and discs!

So, here is to another 6 years of not worrying about the brakes (front anyway!)

How long do the rears last, as a reference to the fronts? Twice as long? Third as long?

By the way, the job was as easy as anything I have ever done on a car - highly recommend saving some money and doing it yourself (if you doubt yourself, however, don't! these are brakes after all - but it IS dead easy!)

67,000 from a set of pads and disks? Everyone knows disks last longer than pads. Are you really sure the disks need replacing?

The ridge on the edge is about 2mm each side - so, yes, I guess so?

Now, they either start life as 25mm and the limit is 22mm - or, they start at 22mm and the limit is 19mm - can't remember which, but I do know that I used a micrometer to measure them last Autumn and they were very close to the Min. then.

My Grandad's rate of brake pad wear is probably about the same!

Oh yeah...........he's 84 and he got overtaken by Morgan Freeman driving some vintage car.

But he does drive a Scooby.............albeit a Leggy.
