Angry tyre blow-out

I had two Goodyear Eagle f1's fitted to my Scooby about 3 months ago (c.1500m). Today I experienced a blow-out on the n/s, fortunately I was only doing 20 mph at the time. Anyway the tyres were fitted by Micheldever tyres so I called them regarding the guarantee. They said that the tyre would be sent off to Goodyear for assessing though cautioned that in the vast majority of cases such problems are the result of foreign bodies etc and not down to faults with the actual tyre. Does this sound right?
And is this the usual way such gaurantees work, i.e. with the actual manufacturer and not the retailer?
Thanks in advance
Nick

I think there was a couple of similar problems on the same tyre recently, might have related to a bad batch...

Cheers for that, makes interesting reading. Not had chance to check mine yet but will be carrying out a close inspection asap.

Just been out and pumped the tyre up and sprayed it and found a tear on the outside wall about half the way up. I've not kerbed the wheel etc so this really annoying. Looks like it'll be two new tyres tomorrow and we'll see what Goodyear make of it.

Bugger, that's not so good. Hope you get it sorted with Goodyear.

Yeh, thanks - not optimistic they'll identify failure with the tyre.
