Tread pattern probably.
I was always confused by the pattern on the RE050, which it came with from the dealer. The water troughs in the tread seemed to funnel the water to the centre of the tire, not the outside. Looked like they were on the wrong way round, although rotation direction was correct !
Recently got a couple of RE010, which have the water channels the correct way.

I'm by no means an expert, but I don't think they do the 050's anymore, so you don't have a lot of choice.
Had new 010's on the back and half worn 050's on the front of mine for the last 3 months and had no problems. Just moved them round (front to back).
May be worth asking in the tehnical forums.

Don't know the difference but they still do the RE050 - I had 4 fitted last week. They do it in different compounds though. There's EZ, GZ and I think AZ too. Spoke to a great bloke called Clive Miller at Bridgestone UK (Tel: 01926 488500), he told me the RE050GZ is designed for the Impreza. No complaint’s so far.
