Default Usual question - best tyre brand and type

For my classic wagon on 17" wheels, 215/40x17 size, ZR.

Used for general commuting but down the twisties and also duel carriageways. Highish power motor presses on ...
Sharp handling quick response with high grip levels wanted, with good wet weather performance.
Life of tyre not that important, say 12-15000 miles a set is OK for me.

Liked the Bridgestone S02 PP's, but S03's a little too twitchy/tramlining for me.

Seems Goodyear GSD3's have a good rep, any others - the new R range of Toyo, Kumho sticky tytres ( forgot name! ) , any others??

And for these, what sort of price!

Thanks

Neil

goodyears seem to grip really well although they seem to go down at an alarming rate on twisty roads

Michellins are the BEST, but pricey! - 25,000miles from a set!!

Avons seem good value?

The GSD3 F1 are very good, especially in the wet, as are the new Toyo T1R. The F1s are more tolerant to deep puddles and less inclined to aquaplane but both are good.
The Khumo Ectas were like driving on a skid pan in the wet. I gave them three weeks hoping at first that it was just a matter of bedding them in but they had to come off the car.
No experience on the Michelin but I would consider them.
All were on 215 40 17.

Same experince here with the Kuhmos, crap tyres.

Michelin pilot sports are the nuts but with a price tag to match. I like Eagle F1's but will be trying the Toyos next.

The Avons seem good for the money, I've had them before on my MR2.

Heres a pic

I'm running Michelin Pilot Sports 215/45 - 17

Grip in the dry and wet has been superb.

The current set have done about 9000 miles of mixed driving over the last year and still have about 3.5mm remaining.(Although they have been rotated Front to Rear once )

TBH, after trying Goodyears, Avons, Michelins and Bridgestones - I think that the Michelins are by far the best even considering their price.

I wouldn't even consider any other type of tyre next time round
