mintex pads
anyone got any ideas on mintex pads and what i really need for an my98 turbo wagon with 4 pots.
front pads are due for replacement.
i dont tend to use the brakes too much, not hard on them at all so prefer something that works from cold than trackday stuff that i got to warm up.
local mintex dealer can get me
standard mdb1416 or 1144 compound c-tech
are the standard ones anygood ?? or do i need to pay 4 times the price for the 1144 ??

I use 1144s on my MY98 type r and to be honest i think they are crap.They give off so much brake dust you need to clean your wheels weekly and they arnt very good from cold either just my opinion.Im going to go for Ferodo pads next

I use M1144s on my 330mm AP brakes.
Good from cold, very slight transition period when used hard where they feel like they may not be up to the job, then after that when very hot they are highly grippy and consistant. Very slight cold squeal too which I like. Dirty pad but cleans off easily. 8/10
PS scooby-tc I clean my car weekly, not just my wheels!
PPS Stu 4x as much? How much are they wanting for the M1144's? Daz

i have textar ?? pads fitted at the moment which as i understand are mintex.
thery are dirty and give the same 'feel' as decribed by dazc
the 1144 were £90 and the standard ones were £22
ive had ferodos on my nova before but they just glased over and gave no confidence unless they got well hot. i had ebc greenstuff which werent bad just dissapeared at an alarming rate. best pads ive ever had on a car were some soft compound vauxhall standard fit stuff. dunno what to stick on this car tbh ?? like i said i dont hammer the brakes so id rather something that works well from cold.

TEXTAR are not the same compound as any MINTEX pad..................though they are in the same 'group' of companies.............
why the insistence on mintex materials, the 1144 is really old hat now and for the money there are normally better alternatives

The M1144 c-tech cost me £65 a set for the AP 4 pot caliper. Alternatives Alyn?

As I am on a seriously tight budget now, I am also interested to know if the relatively cheap standard Mintex, or Ferodo pads are ok for normal fastish road use ? I can get them for around £20

only going for mintex as ive hads good results with them in the past, quite happily try something new......

If you're still wanting Mintex, look for materials M1109/1 or M1230 on the side of the box
M1109/1 is standard road pad stuff which is fine for sensible driving
M1230 was developed as a heavier duty standard, e.g. white van man / taxi driver type material and should last a bit longer

Don't forget the standard Subaru pads - I've had mine now for 57,500miles and they are STILL not squealing to be replaced!!
You can't do better than that, now can you?? What are they? £40?? Go for it!

In fairness Pete, if you aren't a heavy braker, or do a lot of miles on the Mway they probably will last a while.

Must admit, I fancy some Ferodo DS2500 to try next, just out of interest really...

I can get APEC Pads for £23 .......... are the Subaru Pads 5 times better?

The more expensive is NOT always the best!!
Subaru charge £102 because most people just pay that as part of their servicing ... a motor factor I spoke to can do the exact same pad as Subaru Box up for £32!!
Which just goes to show .... the price is NO indication of life saving powers!!

I toodle about so the APEC pad would suit me fine - if you fast road then you need something with those qualities ..... I am NOT qualified to talk on the merits of pads, just what I would do (in my situation)

Are you in the brakes business ? you appear to have more in depth knowledge than the rest of us... well me anyway !... do you know anything about the Ferodo pad I mentioned earlier FDB 986, and would it be better than the Mintex.
