Where to apply the pink/red grease - Caliper Service kit
In the middle of servicing my 4-pots. Was unsure of where to apply the pink/reg grease supplied in the kit. Does it go:
1. Under the inner piston seal (the one that sits flush on the inside)?
2. Around the piston itself?
3. under the outer seal?
4. Somewhere else??
thanks in advance
Bob

I take it you mean the same as copper grease?
I put a good layer over the back of the pads, back of shims (if any). Also grease the pins and holes.
Thats what I do anyway.

:d at the last comment!
No, I use the grease, a very special high melting point grease on the inside of the seals covering the exposed piston/caliper area to stop corrosion if the puncture, and to make them water tight.
You can use it on the piston to ease by the cylinder seal, but I use clean brake fluid to do this job. It's been ok for 20 years this process, so sticking to it.
I install the seals in the cylinder wet with fluid too, bloody horrid stuff on your fingers isn't it?
Graham.

@ KY and copper grease.
Have used it on the pistons to slide them back in....done last night
Will do it as you suggested Graham if ever I need to do them.
Am using latex gloves to cover up all the open wounds picked up battling with the intercooler on previous occasions.
Many thanks,
Bob.
PS. If anybody is looking to service their calipers, you do NOT need to split them as there is more than enopugh room to get pistons in/out and install new seals.

Bob,
If you could post up the Subaru part no. it would be appreciated as I need to get both my fronts serviced soon.
Did one kit do the two calipers?
Do you happen to know if they do a seperate kit for the rear calipers (MY99)?

each service kit is for ONE AXLE...........................i.e. enough for pair of calipers
you have to buy the appropriate kit for the brakes fitted 2pot, 4pot, single slider, etc..............
