What would cause this on New Discs?????
New discs and pads fitted about 20 miles ago.
I had the same mark on the old discs.
Something wrong with the caliper?
Is this why the rear is squeaking?

Forgot to add:
I am taking about the black mark (about 1cm) near the centre.
Thanks

do you meen the different shade of ring around the disc??if so its where the disc gets hotter than elsewhere,it can just be the pads bedding in or it can be that the pads aren't moving freely on the caliper or it can be that the piston in the caliper is slightly seized, when they were fitted all this should have been checked but sometimes a slightly seized piston isn't always noticeable till it gets worse.

Thanks for the replies.
I should have posted the pics on one post.
Yeah the ring is all the way round the disc. The discs went on without any problems and they are sitting flush.
We did check the caliper and seemed OK. As you said, the caliper might have a seized piston on the caliper which is causing the disc to overheat.
There were two holes on the disc and the mechanic used this to take the disc out from the hub. Couldn't see nothing snapped off.
I mentioned the clicking sound on the other post. Sorry I meant to type squeal instead of clicking.
I have inspected the old discs. They had cracks on the inner side and same scorch mark on the outer.
Is it worth swapping the caliper round?
Do Subaru sell a service kit the rear caliper????

to be honest i think there wont be anything wrong with them, the pads cant really not sit stright on the discs, what your squealing could be is that looking on the first pic you have only copper greased the pads on the sides and not on the back face of the pads,so the pads and caliper go metal to metal and this causes squealing, also have you taken it easy on the brakes at first to let them bed in??it can take a while before the discs and pads wear in so that they are 100% in contact with each other, until this happens you often get scorch marks on the discs as they heat up more in the contact area.
p.s not to sure if subaru sell service kits for calipers

They look fine to me. Could just be them bedding in as the rears tend not to bed in as quickly as the fronts, as they don't exert as much pressure.
I would give them a bit longer, or if your really bothered, check that the sliding caliper bolts are not seized. (Will take you about 2 mins)

The bolts seem OK (2 bolts behind the disc). Mechanic has applied copper cease on this.
If they are bedding in, should they get a squeal when driving? (without applying the brakes)

Two of the pads have a metal lug for low pad warning.
The mechanic has installed the the metal lug pad on the inner side and the one without the lug on the outer.
The car is going in for a service on saturday. I have asked them to check the caliper.
