Default What causes this tyre wear?

This was from the passenger front, its done approx 25k miles, the drivers front isnt quite as bad as this one, and the rears still have about an even 5mm of tread

the ones on the back where on the front for about 10k miles, then i swapped them round

I did go on track with them at Silverstone in September at Trax, I only did 5 or 6 laps, but it was baking hot

It is a MY00 classic, with front strut brace, eibach springs, and prodrive 'fast road' geometry setup

I need to get this sorted really before I get new tyres

Cheers

Steve

25000 miles from fronts isnt bad you know.
Looks like too much neg camber in your fast road set up, or they're tracking out.

I find that you only need to do 5 or 6 laps where you are hammering the car to get the tyre to begin to fragment, especially on the inside edges. This can be from a combination of camber adjustment and tyre pressures. Once the edge starts to go, it can then deteriorate quickly through normal road use.

Having said that, 25k is not a bad milage from a set of tyres, although yours look to be a little bit below the minimum tread depth requirements

I had a fast road/track geo setup on mine, but I'm not convinced that for 99% of my driving its actually an improvement - its only when you really push it that it makes a difference, and by then you're well past any safe limits, and it just rips your tyres apart

Yeah 25k isnt too bad, but then the backs have done the same amount of miles, and there not even half worn yet , and they survived 10k miles on the front first

I know what you mean about the geom setup, great on roundabouts, tight corners etc, but a bit too much neg camber for motorway, and not much benefit

Sonic get yourself over to ABP and get their fast road set-up done (£111 takes 2-3 hours), I lost a couple of front tyres to uneven wear so once the eibachs had settled in I got them to set it up and ever since I have had even tyre wear all round aswell as much better handling. Think they do similar to Prodrive but they adjust the castor aswell. IIRC they have developed it both on the track and road. Before the Micra came along mine was doing 30 - 40 motorway/dual carriageway miles a day and it was fine when I last changed the tyres the wear was even right across the tread.

My step-dad has had it done on his bugeye (std suspension) because he was having similar tyre wear probs, it sorted his out as above too

Cheers Ayde

thing is I had the Geometry done quite a bit after the eibachs went on, and upto that point the tyre wear was pretty even, I only had it done, once I had the new tyres & wheels fitted

tbh I think it was going on track that has deterioted the fronts so much

Cool

Bloody hell those tyres look like they were on wrong of side of the legal limit about 10,000 miles ago . Whatever happened to the highway code's advice of checking your tyres once a week!

well the outside tread still has about 5mm, I do check them regulary, and I knew they were getting low, but didnt realise they were that bad, plus i must have done about 2k miles since I last checked them (been driving round the country a lot)

mine did that on the Prodrive settings and lots of motorway miles. I think it was the toe-in on the front that did it rather than just the negative camber.

I'm now running a little more neg camber, but zero toe and my fronts have even wear.
