Didn't prodrive reccomend 16" as the best compromise for handling and comfort. Not sure if this applied to all classic models or UK Spec classic models only though. IIRC They insisted on 16" wheels being fitted before they'd supply the PPP for 99MY onwards.

I thought the P1 came with 17'' wheels - but there was an upgrade package to 18'' - and the only reason it didnt come with 18'' wheels as standard was the type approval process meant it had to be able to run with snow chains which they couldnt do with the 18'' wheels....
I run 18'' wheels and dont find them as harsh as I thought they might be.

Yeah, the P1 did come with 17s and -you're right- ideally they wanted it supplied with 18s. Perhaps the 16" was just for the std UK 215ps and PPP variants. The P1 was a special afterall ;-)

For Classics I've seen it suggested a few times on here that 17s are the best compromise for the road and 16s for track use.
The weight of the wheel makes a big difference to how the car feels though, If you go from 16's to 17's and find lighter wheels it'll feel better, if you fit 17's that were heavier than the 16's it'll feel worse.

Right.......... let me tell you.. Yellow Sti6, I know you've seen my yellow Sti6 for sale in the For sale section coz you've commented on it. Yes they look the NUTS. But be aware, they give an extremely hard ride compared to 16"s or probably 17"s, But what the hell in that respect, cos the girlfriend loves a hard ride The wheels were on my car when i bought it, but I for one wouldn't buy them again in the future, due to the fact that in less than 4,000 miles i've had 2 punctures ( in 6 yrs. of scooby ownership i've never had ONE). Big deal you may say, but at £150.00 a throw it sort of smacks me in the mouth. Tyres Northampton quoted me £180ish even after i said "Scoobynet" The only reason I get them cheaper is cos the next-door-neighbour works for ATS.
Anyone wanna buy a set of perfect 18" Technomagnesia in gold????
