Question Which Brakes?

I've got an 02 WRX and I'm going to upgrade the brakes. I don't want to go to the expense of AP's. I've been looking at EBC discs and Tarox. The car is pretty much standard, but in 12 months, when the warranty's gone it won't be. I'm aiming for around 280 bhp and I don't want to buy brakes that ain't up to it.

Have a look at the Godspeed 335mm kit then , as bought by many on here so will have plenty of reviews on here , - www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk , it retains the standard calipers so works as good as any big brake kit without the expense of buying calipers

I had considered Godspeed 335, but I hadn't really heard anything about them. After researching some old threads, they do seem the way to go. Is there any other kits which use exisitng calipers? Godspeed is pretty good value at just over £600.

If you're hard on brakes have just grooved, ian will say that too, the drilling 'can' cause cracks, but I know one guy who's very hard on his and has got no cracks yet!!

Do you really need a big brake kit? I'd suggest that good pads (e.g. pagid blacks) and some braided hoses will do the job nicely. Nowt wrong with st Subaru 4 pots for road use (320bhp classic owner). Track work is a different matter.

if you have changed your wheels then i would consider a full sti brembo set up. You can get front and rear disks, calipers and pads off an 06 sti for around the £550 mark and these are a great upgrade over standard.

I've got the godspeed brake kit on an 03 wrx, and so far it's been really good.
My brakes were standard before so I'm not sure how much of the difference is down to changing pads to DS2500's, but the brakes seem to bite quite well now.

I haven't really had a chance to use the brakes in anger yet, only just put 500 miles on them, but at least so far when braking hard from motorway speeds they've worked a treat.

The kit was quite easy to fit even for a numpty such as myself, so if you're at all technically minded you'll be able to fit it no problems. The hardest bit is tapping the uprights needed to hold the modified caliper in place, but if you just take it easy with the tap it should be OK. These two threads were the first I've ever tapped and I seem to have got it right, so it's not too hard

I think that on some cars you may be unlucky and have to undo one of the 19mm bolts that hold the wheel hub assembly to the strut, as one of them may be in the way when fitting the caliper bolts (i.e. the head interferes with the bolt you're trying to fit). I was lucky that the big bolts where in such a position that I could fit the caliper bolts no problems.

Overall, for the expense I'm really chuffed with the brakes (Edit: and I'll probably go back and get the kit for the rears too once I've sorted my suspension out)
