Hi its time for some new front pads for my uk turbo MY00 as i had a nasty shock when i saw the bottom of the front left pad as its worn right down, had only checked the top which has plenty left on it before now, uneven pad wear for some reason while the right side is ok.
Which would be best,

1. EBC red ceramics

2. Ferodo 2500

Check one of the pistons in the caliper isn't siezed.

Can't help with the pad choice as I have never used the Red's. I have the DS2500's and love them.

Thats what i thought, going to take it to a subaru garage as i have 6 months warrenty left. See what they have to say about it before i do anything myself.

Can't vote as only used Red stuff ceramics but much better than OEM. Went to Camsport for a great price as well.

I have EBC reds and they are very good. A mate following me a few days ago had serious fade with his OE set-up when I had none (although I also have braided hoses and 5.1 fluid). Haven't tried the 2500's, but a mate who has them on his Godspeeds can't wait to change them due to the excessive dust problem. In the wet he says it's almost like mud on the wheels.

I fitted EBC red ceramic pads and turbo grooved discs to the front of the car on Saturday morning. Most people's comments were "Ugh, why are you fitting those? EBC are crap" or "You'll have to be careful because they don't work when they're cold".

Well, the verdict is that even when cold and having done only 4 miles they're better than the standard discs with DS2500 pads. I have another 180 miles to do before the recommended bedding period is over but I'm looking forward to getting them really hot and seeing how they compare under 'spirited' driving.

They did have a very poor reputation before, but AFAIK the new compounds are a lot better.

Only tried the DS2500's. They're OK, but produce far too much dust for my liking which can lead to vibration on large rotors.

Personally, I'll be glad to see the back of them.

Stefan, they hadn't tried the new EBC compunds, they were basing their 'valued' opinion on what they had heard about EBC products over the last few years. Ie: talking out of their ****! That's why I went for EBC, the feedback I've heard from people who've actually tried them is very good.

I don't know whether the EBC red ceramic pads have a low-dust compound like the older EBC pads, but let's face it they can't be any worse than DS2500s!

Everyone was the same. Took some "free" pads to convince most people on here to give EBC's another try.

John Felstead did a very good trial of all the new compounds a while ago. Getting some EBC red's to try myself over the winter.

i have to say its nice to see you guys responding with comments.....because without feedback from you guys EBC dont know what the verdict is out there,and feedback is the the best form of understanding what the customer wants...we sell EBC redstuff but it is hard sometimes to convince people that progress has been made...

My EBC's don't dust up any more than my original brembo pads, maybe less, but they don't hlf stop...

Sorry to change the question slightly, but how do the reds compare to MIntex/ Black Diamond pads?

In answer to the last Q, very well. Mintex far too dusty and noisy on grooved disks. Black diamond pads also very noisy on their own disks! Redstuff just stop the car.

had some red stuff and ebc discs done 600 mile on them now and just started braking hard again after breaking them in but im finding them very noisy have i warped them?????

Don't know the answer to ur question, but i'm pleased with mine so far, although they're still bedding in.
What's the best technique/ distance to do this over?

500 mile at least avoid any heavy braking...........

The EBC Greenstuff pads are the ones that are sh$te, and gave EBC a bad name. They are only suitable for Chav's posing in their Nova's because they don't dust up their wheels. If you wanted to use them on a performance car like a Scoob then they overheated and cracked the disks in some cases.

Some people on here are referring to EBC Redstuff's but they are the old ones and although fairly good they are different to the EBC Red Ceramics. Make sure you get the right ones.

I currently have Pagid grooved disks with Pagid RS 4-2 pads after being told they were the best setup for the standard 4-pot calipers. They are excellent.

I bought some EBC Red Ceramics after the dealer said my pads needed replacing. Five months later and still on those 'worn out' Pagid pads I'm thinking of replacing them with the Ceramics I bought. There's probably still enough left to get me to the next service but I can't wait to try them.

You are correct JamesPRJones on what you are saying........but this also needs to be added.....

1) Chamfers to cut noise

2) Brake in coating to accelerate pad bed in

3) Noise reduction shims on the rear to completely eliminate noise

all the above have been added to upgrade the redstuff and if you are purchasing the latest ceramics they will have all these features.........

I have just changed to Red stuff ceramics from Pagid blues. While they are good on the road for most enthusiastic driving, they don't give me the confidence that the Pagids did. It'll be intresting to see how they perform on track as I took my blues to the limit.

any update on your thoughts guys.these are my 2 choices,but i fancy trying the red stuff ceramics.would be good to hear from anyone who has used either as i am changing pads within the next week or so
