which tyres you got
hi all,
I need to replace all four tyres and currently run Pirelli P zeros. Im looking for a slightly cheaper tyre as they will cost me a fortune.
What tyres have you got and what are they like?

Go on net and look at "blackcircles" for good prices inc. fitting. Mine are Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 (215/45/17 were £102 each) - this brand is well recommended by others on SN.

Based on 16s.... It would have to be Goodyear F1 GSD3's for pure all out grip, especially wet.
But the trade off is wear rate...the fronts were feathered to near illegal limits within 4-5000 miles, (as opposed to 7k Toyo & 8k SO3's) if driven really hard (although I admit to changing fronts at wear levels that some people wouldn't consider yet dodgy), no matter how spot on your geometry etc is.
Also... the GSD3's are not as progressive as the Toyo Proxes... The Goodyears have a tendancy to grip, grip, grip then very little warning...... no grip
Less tramlining on the GSD3's as opposed to the Potenza SO3's (which incidentally, I didn't rate, due to bad wet grip, noise and chronic tramlining...I rated them at around 75% of the older SO2's)
Alot of people have complained on here about the sidewalls on the GSD3's having quite a bit of movement about them. I did notice this but you soon get used to it...
After 2 years, 36,000 hard miles, 8 Proxes (SO2 and SO3), 4 Yokohamas, 8 Goodyears, and 4 Potenza SO3's.. I hadn't found anything to equal the GSD3's.
The Yokos were changed not long after I bought the car and I can't really comment on them as I was still getting used to the car during the time they were on...and had relatively low on tread.
People have mentioned also that the GSD3's turn in can be a bit sloppy due to the specific tread pattern (not unlike the Toyo's pattern...with no obvious central banding) but I can't say I ever noticed this...

Ive got a quote from my local garage for 4 eagle f1's gsd3's 205.50.16's for £106 each fitted...
I dont do that much milage as i work close to home so not too worried about the wear.
The garage said they will beat anyone locally but they seem the cheapest..dunno how people got them for £85 ?

F1 GDSs in 205/50/16 are £87.20 (inc postage and VAT) on mytires.co.uk. The ordering process is a bit convoluted but should be with you within a week (shipped from Germany, I think). Fitting and balancing should be about £20 to £30 for a set of four at a local fitter.
I'm half way through my second (or is it third???) set now. Can't fault them once you get used to the slightly softer sidewall (compared to OEM Bridgestones), but slightly increased pressures (35psi front, 32/33 rear) helps this. Edges do wear a bit quickly up front, though. Regular front to back rotation makes this seem a little less sudden
As pleased as I am with the F1's, I think I might try the Proxes T1-Rs next.

I really liked them. Good grip and no tramlining. But I've just changed them for T1-R which are meant to be much better in the wet and marginally better in the dry - should be awesome!!
