Default Bigger Wheels for Forester Turbo S (2000)

My Forester Turbo S (2000) has Geolandar 215/60 16 at the moment. I will keep these for the Hungarian winters. But I would like bigger wheels and more road (sport) biased tyres. What tyre sizes will I need to keep the same gearing (or close to it) for,

17inch
18inch

Has anyone got any recommendations for this type of upgrade for a Forester?

Regards, Pieter
Budapest

ps. did search the archive and could not find anything

Pieter

We run a 225/50x17 Pirelli P6000 on a 7x17 ET48 wheel and are looking at an 18" option at the moment. Ride comfort is good and there are huge improvements in grip and handling.

As Mike, 225-50-17 . Now Goodyear F1's after Pirelli P6000. The F1's might be that little bit better in the wet but not a lot to choose between them.

Thanks everybody for your replies :-)

I suppose the question I have is the following:

I was considering buying OZ Superleggeras 17 with Goodyear F1 GSD3's

Is the 17 x 7 going to be OK? Or should I consider another wheel and go for
7 1/2" or even 8"

Is this wheel "strong" enough for the Forester (it is very light)?

Regards, Pieter

Ps. I have also posted this question on www.subaruforester.com :-)

Pieter

Have you considered 225/55/16 tyres. Goodyear D3's, Bridgestone SO3's and Toyo's are all available in this size and you can use your existing rims. Having used both 16 and 17" rims on our Forester, there isn't that much difference.
