Juddering / Vibration - brakes after hurricane
Hi all,
My JDM STi7 was outside and took on the winds and salty air of hurricane Frances.
My brembo brake discs have the 'rusted' look to them like after it has rained overnight. I have driven aprrox 100 miles since then and the rusted look will not go away and I am having some pretty severe juddering / vibrating of the car and steering wheel when braking (very noticable above 30 mph).
Is there anything I can do to get rid of this or will it just take some time to wear the rust away. It usually wears away very quickly why not so this time ?
The brakes worked perfectly before the hurricane.
Thanks,
Ray

Scooby Regular
exactly, and braking from 30mph ain't gonna do that.
Find a decent stretch of road, cane it and stamp on the brakes. Don't come to a complete halt or leave your foot resting on the brakes as they'll be pretty toasty.

It may not go away! Have you got a rusty patch the shape of your pads, on your disc? If you have then the salty water has probably reacted with the chemicals in the pads to form a mild acid. This will have eaten into your disc and will take quite a while to wear away. The cure is to try an agressive pad to wear it quickly or if it's really bad then get them skimmed.

PS I think you'll find that I'm right

MaDass....settle down dude.....
Floyd, I think you may be right, I have tried numerous high speed stops and the darn pads are still showing rust. Salty air must have really done a number on those pads / discs...
Cheers,
Ray
