Unhappy I've been nailed!!

I've got a set of 17" OZ P1 alloys fitted with 205/45 ZR17 88W RF Pirelli P zero Asimmetrico tyres. This morning I went out to the car to find a flat tyre. On closer inspection, I found a nail in the centre of the tyre tread. I have been told that this can be fixed, but I am a bit worried about how well the repair will hold on hard cornering, etc.

Has anybody had a similar problem and did you get it repaired or did you buy a new tyre? I don't fancy paying another £120 for a new tyre when they only have about 2,000 miles on them!

Thanks for the quick response! Did you have it done by a local garage or one of the big chains (KwikFit, etc)?

get it plugged using a proper repair plug that goes through the tyre to the outer surface. Some garages use a normal internal patch like you would use on a pushbike tyre. Kwick Fit use the proper plugs, costs £15 to do a tyre inc balancing. You can get these repaired if the nail is in the centre area of the tread, there is a cutoff point near the sidewall where it isnt allowed to be repaired.

There are no problems with speed or load rating following a pluged tyre repair.

Default Tyre repair

Just a word of caution when getting your tyre repaired. I went to KWIK FIT and they had real problems getting the tyre off. So much so that they eventually ended up gouging the wheel rim on what were pristine 17" STI Gold alloys. Was not impressed and wouldn't use them again. I would recommend a specialist wheel company as they were aware that because of the low profile tyre there would be probs getting it off

Well I went to Kwik Fit and they repaired the damage. One week later the tyre is fine. Thanks to everyone for all the advice...

JRW- claim the damage reapirs back from KF..
I went for a puncture and one of their numpty mechanics rounded off my locking wheel nut!!!! (hex pattern FFS!) after I had warned him not too over torque it with the impact wrench...

manager ended up sledghammering a large deep socket over it to remove it.. and them promptly bought new locking nuts ALL ROUND!!!! and then promptly docked the cost from the numpties wages!!!!!!
top bloke that manager (stapleford branch- name of paul)

I seriously suggest you contact the manager, and if that fails try writing direct to the guy on the posters (MD - tom something) I'm sure they will reimburse you- they have insurance and should be covered for this..

I believe you can get a tyre repaired even if it on the edge. But the edge type repairs need sending away for specialist places.
