4 Pots on thr Rear- Possible?
I am about to purchase some new Front Calipers for MY97 STI Type R, while they fit new calipers to the front, would it be possible to relocate the subaru 4 pots onto the rear wheels?

Thinking off the top of my head after the San Miguel has kicked in so take with a pinch / bucket of salt
existing front and rear discs are unlikely to be the same size so you'd have to swap the discs as well and maybe make a spacer to go from the existing hub to accommodate the new, larger disc / caliper
how does the handbrake work - would it still work with the front disc installed?
what about brake balance? assuming you're upgrading the performance of the fronts, how do the "new" rears fit in with the "system?" e.g. too much performance which would push the bias rearwards? manufacturers play with the friction performance / setup between the two axles so that it's safe - less chance of swapping ends if you have to anchor on...
A few points to ponder over...

Wouldn't the ABS correct any imbalance between front and rear brake bias??
What I mean to say is if there was too much rear brake bias and those wheels were likely to lock up wouldn't the ABS prevent the locking up??

The 4-pots add a lot of weight plus braking force isn't all about the number of pistons. You'd probably be better with a set of 2-pots - doesn't the Type R already have these?? If not, then either ones from a later Type R or a newage may be a better fit.
A good set of rear pads/discs should be enough for the majority of driving. Can only see a real benefit if you compete.

Cheers, i just thought that if replacing the fronts it may be a good idea to put them on the rear, but as you all say. Thats not the best thing to do

NO ABS...
...on a Type R! Something to do with them having a Diff control.
Also, rear calipers changed on v5 from sliding caliper to a twin pot. Disks are different thickness and you can't change to the later calipers.

It is possible. IIRC Calder Developments car at Scoobyshootout had them on the rear. It had a large set of brakes on the front, can't remember what they were though.

2pots you certainly can, however you need to change not only the discs and calipers but also the "backing plate"..................
