ticking noise on godspeeds
Having fitted a set of 335mm Godspeed disks to my 4 pots last week, (500 miles later), I'm getting a strange ticking from one side.
I've not had chance to look yet, cos its raining (!), but I wondered if anyone had had any similar probs...
The noise is linked to the wheel speed (sounds like a ticker card in bicycle spokes), and actually goes away if the brake pedal is pressed (even slightly).
After a couple of miles, it goes off, but returns after the brakes are next used.
When assembled, there was no metal -metal contact and the wheels are well clear.
The only thing I do know is that the split pins are loose, in as much as they can easily be moved, though not removed, as I've opened one leg on the inside of the caliper.. I wondered if the pins should be tight ?
The noise may be the pad/pins skipping against the grooved disk ?
Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
Mark

Thanks RON - I took the clip off without removing the pins when I removed the old disks, so I was going to try this first - just about to have some breakfast, then I'll get the wheels off and give it a go...

Hi Mark, Ive got the Godspeed 325 brembo conversion too... and both sides of mine are ticking.
Dale at Diggle motors reckons the bells and discs are not tight enough, so hes putting me some stainless bolts in on Monday.
I`ve got some new stainless bolts and stainless locking nuts from a local trade place(Frank Warren )
Ive had my discs since Dec and the original bolts have corrosion on them.
Hope this helps.
I`ll post again on Monday.

Mine did the same at first. Its down to the holes in the pads being elongated and larger than the split pins allowing the pads to move around in the calliper. I filled the holes in the pads with chemical metal and re-drilled with a 6mm bit. The split pins fit fine and I now have no noise!!

WellOil.... I think you may be right - I've fitted the springs and I've yet to test, but I'll follow your lead if it still ticks.
***** - Are you referring to 'cool down' ticking after the car has stopped ?

No when driving, especially when cornering or the wheels are off straight ahead.
Lets see what the outcome is then...
Its worth having the pads out to look at the split pins and pads too.

Sorted
Thanks Chaps - I'll report back if it does it on the way to work Tuesday (Off Monday ) - Its a 50 mile run each way, so plenty of 'test' areas ...
***** - Let us know how you go on - When you say bells and disks aren't tight - Which bolts - the ones holding the disk to the bell ?
I know that Ian had some troubles with the quality of some bolts during the group but period - I also know that the bolts on my kit are different, all the bolts are capped (hex allen key), no hex head types are used....
Thanks,
Mark

They arent loose, its just that when you go to tighten them, the dont tighten, just turn, cos the threads are corroded.
I`ll post my results on Monday.

you do realsie that there's a nut on the other end of the bolt don't you, holding that still 'might' stop them turnin!!

Yes you are spot on, Ron,
thats why i`ve got stainless types now.
The corrosion will not allow any more tightening to take place, they just spin or snap off.
Thanks for your input.

You will find that the bolts holding the disc and bell together are only tightened to a specific torque , they are designed to move slightly when hot , this is what stops any warping , if you tighten them too much it could cause other problems

Ok, Ive just had my stainless nuts and bolts fitted to my bells and discs,
It worked. The ticking noise has dissappeared.
I made sure they were tight, but not over tight.
I reccommend this to everyone as it will enable retightening/maintenance.
