Best 18" Tyre for the New Age?
I've been running on Toyo TS1's for the past year (20,000 miles) and am currently on my 2nd set of fronts (just ready to change), and original rears (50% worn).
I fancied a change to the RE070's but they only come in a 17" rim size..
So I looked at the Yokohama ES100's and they seem to get good reviews, but there is no mention of wear life, and past experience of Yoko's has left me cautious....
The nexr tyre is the RE040's.. but do not know anything about those...
Last of all are the Avon's
Does anyone have any experience of any of these?
(MY03 STI)

I've no experience of the Avon / RE040 (but from what I've read, they're not better than the Toyo's you've got now), I take it it's the ZZ3 Avon?
Yoko's of the past on my cars have left me with similar expectations for the future (good in the dry, not so good in the wet and life expectancy of your oil).
I've got Goodyears on mine now, nice, but I wouldn't rate them over the Toyo's that much really (although they've yet to have a wet test yet). Now the RE070's, if they made them in 18" I'd be there at pretty much whatever the price, brilliant on the 17" wheels I originally had and if it wasn't for the AP brakes, I'd have 17" again

do you recon Bridgestone are going to develop the RE070's for any other sizes?
Must be a market for them I would have thought, More and more of the newage guys are putting 18 and 19 inch rims on now.

I'm just replacing my front Toyos on my 2002 STi and they are very worn on the inside edge after 8500 miles!! The rears look like they'll do another 8500 miles so I plan to switch to GSD3s all round then.
From my track car, running GSD3s gave as good dry feel/grip and progressiveness, as good wet feel/grip and progressiveness and the GSD3s lasted 60% longer. I think the Toyos are a great tyre but seem to be too soft so are not as good VFM.
Just MHO
