P1 18" tyre dilemma - need answers
#1
Have now been told that Pirelli have no production plans for 225/35 ZR18's for the foreseeable future.
When I had my tyres checked today, they had the sidewall splitting problem that has been seen by so many other people. I wonder if the delays are something to do with this??
For all the people with the 18" P1 wheels, what alternative tyres are there?
Mike Wood of Prodrive has been adamant in the past that nothing else available will clear the wheel arches.
Any suggestions.

I checked my PZero's at the weekend and they had all cracked badly, replaced them yesterday with a set of SO2's and can feel the difference already.
There was no way I was putting on another set of PZero's after this problem. Options were the SO2, Toyo or the Goodyear Eagle, went for the SO2 and have had no problems with rubbing yet on the back.
Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention that I have dropped off the PZero's at my supplying dealer and have asked them to cover the cost of the new set of tyres, £700.
They have said that they might not cover the cost of the SO2's but the equivalent cost of a new set of PZero's.
Either would be OK with me.

I have yoko avs 225/35/18's on my car. 11.5k, no rubbing and still tread left (although edges are a little worn) & I live in MK
Price should be around what you want as well
if you want a look / go to try them out, mail me
cheers simon

The Proxes work very well on the scoob.
Lot's of grip (great in the wet and stunning in the dry - almost S02 level of grip), very predictable and controllable on the edge.
And they seem to wear v well...I've done 2 trackdays and and driven ~12k miles on them this summer, and they've still got some life in them.

I'm trying some Toyo's at the moment and am VERY impressed. I tried these years ago and thought they were good, but not in the same league as an SO2.
I don't know if they have refined the compounds, but the latest ones are great. They do get a bit noisy on the limit, but seem to still hang on. When you do start to slide, they are very progressive.
This year I have tried the following...
1) Bridgestone RE07 5/10 (noisy, not much grip)
2) Pirelli Pzero - would have been 6/10, but split so 0/10
3) SO3 8/10
4) Michelin Sport Cups 10/10 (should be 11/10. Just incredible, in the wet too!!)
5) Continental ContactSport2 4/10 (rubbish)
6) Toyo T1-S 7/10 (and priced very well)
The OE Bridgestones were 215's on 17's, all the rest have been 225 on 18's.
These ratings are on performance (wet and dry grip, stability, breakaway progression) and my own scores.

I expect someone to disagree with this, but I would Never ever buy Any Pirelli tyres again... All the pirelli tyres I have seen have had problems various types... mainly problems with lumps... (tyres had only done 1000 miles..)
I dont know why but would never risk them again.. I changed to Yokohama A520's and I rate these tyres... then went to A539's which seem a little bit better all round..
Down to personal preference and price I suppose..
I'll have to see how the brigestones are that I have at the moment.
