Which Discs ?? Tarox or Black Diamond
#1
Folks..
I need your opinions here..
I've currently got Black Diamond Combi Discs (277mm with 2pots) and I'm upgrading to P1 4pots.
I need to get some 294mm discs and I'm wondering if to get larger Black Diamonds like I'm running now or go for some Tarox 294mm 44 grooved discs.
Anyone had experience of the Tarox discs ?
O.M.

Personally, after trying three different types of discs, I wish I'd bought a set from Godspeed in the first place.
It would involve fitting spacers in between your calipers, but the brakes perform so much better and don't warp your discs after a track session!

I have Black Diamond 12Gs with Mintex 1155s and have no problems (been on a track three times now). If you speak to Mike @ Scoobymania, he'll probably recommend going for grooved but not cross-drilled, as the latter tend to be weaker.

If you get a chance talk to Graham at TSL, he will amaze you with his knowledge of braking systems. I am very impressed with the TSL discs and Ds4003 pads I now have on my RB5

I have the black diamond 12 grooves with Mintex 1144. They squeal like hell even when not braking. I have had them taken out, to make sure its fitted properly and the anti squealing plate & grease applied. Still does it!!!
I've been told that they all do it and Mintex pads are all pretty hard on discs. I don't do any track days, just fast driving and have been told to go for EBC greens next time.

I've got the drilled/grooved (I know, I know ) TarOx's.
I got a dodgy set first time round (warped quickly), and then the bloody distributor started faffing around with skimming rather than replacing.
When I finally got a new set I was/am very happy - ~30k km's and 3 sets of DS2000 and no signs of wear or warping (700km's on Nurburgring in 2 days).

I have 40G Tar-Ox with M1155 Mintex pads and although they do squeal a bit when cold (pads at fault i feel), they are excellent, even on track days. I am looking to go 4/6 pot etc soon though.

Well I went for the G88 44 Groove Tarox Discs, fitted them tonight with my P1 4 Pots and took them for a spin to bed the Mintex 1155 Pads in. After 30 mins and pads almost bedded in I was very impressed with the braking.
I've got a bit more adjustment to do, maybe fitting a brake support bracket to stop the bulkhead flexing when braking under pressure and also give the brakes another bleed in a few dyas with the help of my Brother.
