Question

I need to get my front pads changed in the next few days and the dealer has quoted £147 fitted for the Subaru make. Is there thing better and cheaper on the market? It for a MY95 with the standard 15" wheels...

Thanks

Nimbus

Think I paid that for my Pagid Blues - highly recommended, although I do also use the uprated Pagid 8 groove discs - not sure what effect these pads would have on the standard discs after sustained use.

Chris

If you're interested, have a chat with Jeff at Hi Spec Engineering - top guy who knows his brakes. Details at

Thanks Guys,

I've spoken to Scoobymania and I'm going for the Mintex ones for a lot better price than the main dealer..

The power of Scoobynet. You have just saved me a ton of cash

Question

Nimbus,

I'd be interested to hear what you think of these. I've decided to put the uprated "Prodrive" pads on mine (flame suit prepared for "You shouldn't have done that etc etc").

Can't afford big discs just yet, so this was a bit of a compromise. Worth a try as they are only £40 more tha standard pads.

When are you having fitted, mine go on, on the 23rd at the service.

Hi Matt,

I'm getting them tomorrow . I'll give it a couple of hundred miles or so to properly bed down then let you know how there are.

Matt Churchill -

I've just had these Mintex 'Prodrive'-spec pads fitted to my MY94 STI, together with some 4 pot brakes, SS brake lines etc etc. The only negative thing I would say about them is they can squeak sometimes going forwards, always braking backwards, and they're very dirty !

Apart from that, no complaints.

Just what I need. The standard ones are already doing my head in as the wheels are filthy after only a couple of days driving..
Still, as long as they stop the car I won't complain..

I got EBC greenstuff pads (£39) because they are good from cold which is essential for my driving, also got the EBC 'turbo groove' discs which came to £130 for the pair, then paid a local garage £30 to fit them, so £199 all in, and what a huge difference it made. The brakes don't fade like they used to and the initial bite is much better, also lasting well. Done 15k of hard driving and not used half the pad yet!

I guess if you just want the pads expect to pay about £69 fitted!
