17" track wheels
#1
I know that this subject has been done to death but can anyone out there tell me what the optimum 17" track wheels for a P1 with Alcon big brakes would be.
I've been following the debates but am completely confused. I don't want to remove any arch trim or put undue leverage on the components and wouldn't welcome any additional tramlining.
Also the existing wheels are 7j- any benefit from going to 7.5j?
By the way, I have been guilty of whinging about my Alcons when they were new, but after very hard use at Brunthingthorpe and Bedford I have to say that they are effing brilliant (and they look much better than all those AP jobbies ). Well done Woody.
Cheers

Yeah, thought about that as I've scratched 3 of the 4 existing wheels (Doh), but I'm not sure about the harsher ride on the road from the 18s. Having said that, maybe I should buy a set of 18" for the track?

Hi FB. It sounds like you're serious!
In which case, I'd take a long look at what kind of rubber is available, and in which sizes. You're probably looking at slicks.
I'm in the same boat and am sticking with 17s for track. I like the Revolution Motorsport RZX from ScoobySport. Light, strong, 17x7 ET50 (absolutely no rubbing on my UK00 car). Five spokes and masses of brake clearance. Good cooling, too. See website. £163 each inc VAT.
Richard.
PS Mine are 'dark anthracite' ie black! They look clean even when their filthy!

I'm not sure that I can afford P1's much though I'd like to have them as this track game looks like being an expensive habit.
BTW I caught some threads about Carolynn and your cars being changed - what have you got now ( I saw a nice 10year old Legacy going around at Bedford and I could definitely see you in it )

1) Why be scared of a slower car (P1)???
2) Did that hurt LOL
Mine will be at Trax in September or Brands in November if that's the slap of a gauntlet I hear.....
PS - the only MY01 with a big wing at Bedford was Pete's - so you are taking the pee out of him, not me hahahahaha

1) Jackanory, Jackanory
2) really hurt
Pete's car was nice, especially with his blue lights on from the front, which was the view I had for some 6 laps before I slowed down and let him past (before all the muppets jump on me I was around 200m in front of him, not doing a mobile chicane jobby). The lower ride height and especially the rear wing really finished it off as the back end on the MY01 is what currently gives me the *******, particularly on the UK300.
In fact I am beginning to imagine that I might be able buy one in a few years time, once they've made them go a bit faster
I know your new one wasn't there as I remember chatting to you while you were loading your track wheels into some 4 door shed at the end

LOL
Funny, I didn't have you down as a bullsh1tter mate, still, I never was a good judge of character.....
BTW, the four door shed was the one that had the fold down back seats, unlike your two door "family saloon" that you had to put your dirty old wheels on the back seat cushions cos your seats don't fold down and you had forgotten some plastic to protect the seats.....
If you stop being so cruel i'll give you a ride round in a proper car if you are at Trax or Brands in November...hehehe

Jza, a voice of reason in the wilderness, thank God....you haven't got any track wheels have you ?
Dave TS. You see that Fiesta 1.1? That's your car, that is!
(that'll be why the rear seats fold down)

The problem is I read your fiesta comments after the e-mail armistice and just couldn't help myself .
Thank you for being so gracious oh Great SexGod, F1 & WRC works driver, and Captain of Industry- please don't print what I said in my e-mail as I'll never be able to hold my head up in the "P1's are the last of the Great Imprezas Club AKA '01 - It came from the Black Lagoon "
