I know that this subject has been done to death but can anyone out there tell me what the optimum 17" track wheels for a P1 with Alcon big brakes would be.

I've been following the debates but am completely confused. I don't want to remove any arch trim or put undue leverage on the components and wouldn't welcome any additional tramlining.

Also the existing wheels are 7j- any benefit from going to 7.5j?

By the way, I have been guilty of whinging about my Alcons when they were new, but after very hard use at Brunthingthorpe and Bedford I have to say that they are effing brilliant (and they look much better than all those AP jobbies http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif). Well done Woody.

Cheers

John

Keep the existing wheels for the track and get some 18" for the road...... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Fat Boy 18 June 2001 01:32 PM

Dave

Yeah, thought about that as I've scratched 3 of the 4 existing wheels (Doh), but I'm not sure about the harsher ride on the road from the 18s. Having said that, maybe I should buy a set of 18" for the track?

Hoppy 18 June 2001 01:56 PM

Hi FB. It sounds like you're serious!

In which case, I'd take a long look at what kind of rubber is available, and in which sizes. You're probably looking at slicks.

I'm in the same boat and am sticking with 17s for track. I like the Revolution Motorsport RZX from ScoobySport. Light, strong, 17x7 ET50 (absolutely no rubbing on my UK00 car). Five spokes and masses of brake clearance. Good cooling, too. See website. £163 each inc VAT.

Richard.

PS Mine are 'dark anthracite' ie black! They look clean even when their filthy!

Fat Boy 18 June 2001 04:58 PM

Thanx Richard

I'll have a look at them

Running Carolyn's car on 18" P1's with 225/40 PZero's plus 40mm lowered Leda suspension - not too hard ride....

Fat Boy 19 June 2001 09:39 AM

Dave

I'm not sure that I can afford P1's much though I'd like to have them as this track game looks like being an expensive habit.

BTW I caught some threads about Carolynn and your cars being changed - what have you got now ( I saw a nice 10year old Legacy going around at Bedford and I could definitely see you in it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif)

Dave T-S 19 June 2001 01:45 PM

SARKY!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Seeing as you asked - two new MY01's:

Mine

18" Speedline GT1 lites/S03's (on now)

Full decat Scoobysport exhaust/ITG panel filter (on now)
Morette twin headlamp conversion (on now)

It's all Pete's fault for taking me round Bedford in his........

Fat Boy 19 June 2001 03:20 PM

Lovely, and who said you were paid too much.

BTW, was that the MY01 with the big rear wing that i passed a couple of times in my outmoded P1 http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Hmmm

Are you going to Bedford this time - I'll bring my video camera http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Dave T-S 20 June 2001 08:44 PM

Can't get a day off, unfortunately http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

Fat Boy 21 June 2001 11:17 AM

Shame, mind you I hope you're not running scared http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Seriously though Pete's new car , and I'm sure your 2, do look good. There, thought that i'd never be able to say that http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

1) Why be scared of a slower car (P1)??? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

2) Did that hurt LOL http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Mine will be at Trax in September or Brands in November if that's the slap of a gauntlet I hear.....

PS - the only MY01 with a big wing at Bedford was Pete's - so you are taking the pee out of him, not me hahahahaha http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Fat Boy 22 June 2001 09:57 AM

1) Jackanory, Jackanory

2) really hurt

Pete's car was nice, especially with his blue lights on from the front, which was the view I had for some 6 laps before I slowed down and let him past (before all the muppets jump on me I was around 200m in front of him, not doing a mobile chicane jobby). The lower ride height and especially the rear wing really finished it off as the back end on the MY01 is what currently gives me the willies, particularly on the UK300.

In fact I am beginning to imagine that I might be able buy one in a few years time, once they've made them go a bit faster http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

I know your new one wasn't there as I remember chatting to you while you were loading your track wheels into some 4 door shed at the end http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Dave T-S 22 June 2001 11:32 AM

LOL

Funny, I didn't have you down as a bullsh1tter mate, still, I never was a good judge of character..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

BTW, the four door shed was the one that had the fold down back seats, unlike your two door "family saloon" that you had to put your dirty old wheels on the back seat cushions cos your seats don't fold down and you had forgotten some plastic to protect the seats..... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

If you stop being so cruel i'll give you a ride round in a proper car if you are at Trax or Brands in November...hehehe

Dave T-S 22 June 2001 01:54 PM

BTW - The blue lights you saw were probably the police attempting to stop you for reckless driving hehehehehehe http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Fat Boy 25 June 2001 10:15 AM

I'll bring a crossword to pass the time during your lap http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif (not at Trax but will try to make Brands).
If it was the police they need to buy some faster cars http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Dave T-S 25 June 2001 01:36 PM

I heard the police car was a bog standard 1.1 Fiesta panda car and he had no trouble keeping up with you...... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Jza 26 June 2001 10:13 AM

CHILDERN!!! Please stop fighting.

Play nicely or i'll have to take away your toys http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Jza

Fat Boy 26 June 2001 10:38 AM

Jza, a voice of reason in the wilderness, thank God....you haven't got any track wheels have you ?

Dave TS. You see that Fiesta 1.1? That's your car, that is! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif
(that'll be why the rear seats fold down)

Dave T-S 26 June 2001 11:31 AM

OI - FatBoy - we agreed a truce.....

BTW - you are behind the times - MY01 has solid rear seats/bulkhead http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Dave T-S 26 June 2001 11:32 AM

So if you're gonna be two faced I'll print what else you said in your email LOL http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Fat Boy 26 June 2001 01:58 PM

The problem is I read your fiesta comments after the e-mail armistice and just couldn't help myself http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif.

Thank you for being so gracious oh Great SexGod, F1 & WRC works driver, and Captain of Industry- please don't print what I said in my e-mail as I'll never be able to hold my head up in the "P1's are the last of the Great Imprezas Club AKA '01 - It came from the Black Lagoon " http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Dave T-S 26 June 2001 02:26 PM

That's better, but you're not quite there yet - I want to hear a bit more grovelling please.... http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
