Question

Comments welcome.

My S02s are knackered as a number of track days have worn the shoulder off and give zero turn-in the wet, even tho' they have plenty of tread left.

What I like about the S02 is increased comfort (17in wheels and hard Sti suspension), wet grip, dry grip, reasonable noise performance.

What I don't like about S02 is their ability to turn into bubble gum out on the track.

Are there any other tyres I should consider, or do I wait until next week to pick up my S03s....budget - I will consider any tyres within reason....

Micheldever offered me

Goodyear F1, P7000, Fulda, etc.

Cheers,

R

Rich - Micheldever said they were launching them next week

Stef - you are correct of course - I need to get some spare wheels with track tyres on them. Just haven't been on the track recently

So overall are we saying that there is not a tyre that offers the overall compromise of road and track (except for OEM Bridgestones which are rubbish everywhere )

David,

Cheers - looks like I will be paying them a visit

BTW Alex is selling some 16" OEM wheels and tyres which could be used as a spare set for track. Can't remember though if you have the AP 4 or 6 pots.

Rannoch.
SO2's are just too soft for dry track use, they will wear very fast as you have found.
Best thing to do is fit part-worns if possible.
I recently tried Yoko A520's and they are simply awesome in the dry, best I've used.
P-Zero's go off too fast for my liking, and TOYO's are also too soft like the Bridgestones.
I wouldn't spend £400 on tyres then go ragging round a track on them though.

Stef.

Hi

I've got the latest michelin Pilot Sports 205/40 x 17.... and they are fantastic.....!!

I used to enjoy a good powerslide with my Toyo's, that is deff. a PAST - time now ...

I have never driven with So2's but they are deff on a par with the Mich's so i've been told....

Question

James,

How much did you pay for the Pilot's and where from ???

I'm shopping for tyres tomorrow and would like another option on the SO2's and Toyo's I have been quoted on so far.

Cheers

Thumbs up

Cheers James,

They are a bit expensive for my use as I'm outing the car in a few months, but still require something for the more spirited driving so I'll go with the Toyo's

Regards

Rich,

it's the six pots so 16ins won't fit.

How much were the Michelins?

Stating the obvious but no road tyre will be perfect on track - always a compromise and a comp tyre would be useless for road. I have SO2's and just done my 2nd track day on them yesterday at Brands. Terrific in wet and ok in dry but only with 40psi front 38 rear. Better than my previous Toyos. Dont seem too bad on the edges yet!

I have also used S02s on track - 500 miles (150 of which were in the wet where they were excellent) - and the tyres are now trashed!

Critically after having 6-pots fitted I drove harder and stayed out much longer which caused the SO2s to effectively melt!
