I need to replace the fronts, 215/45/17, on my Legacy GTB - currently Michelin Pilot Sports.

SO2's seem to be the best choice based on the messages here, but I'm a bit worried about motorway road noise at speed.

Does anyone think there is a significantly quieter tyre out there without losing out too much on grip in the wet?

If anyone knows whether S02s are significantly noisier than the Michelins that would be useful.

Other tyres I've been recommended include

Falken 451
Pirelli P7000
Goodyear F1

Thanks

Mark

I have a 99 Impreza wagon which I bought a few months ago. The tyre noise from the OEM Bridgestones was very bad, especially on concrete or coarse surfaces. I looked into quieter tyres and eventually chose Pirelli P7000 based on the 1999 Autocar Tyre Test using a Scoobie. This showed them to be about 2 dB quieter than SO2s, F1s, Michelen Pilots. They weren't the quietest tyre tested but overall they were the only "quiet" tyre that scored well. On my Wagon they make a huge difference to the noise levels. Now I can hear the wind noise and more rattles!
