PRODRIVE BRAKE UPGRADE?
#1
I`m just about to pay 1600 quid for a prodrive brake upgrade for my MY 98 Impreza Turbo from my local Subaru dealer.
Has anybody else got this upgrade and if so what do you think?

I think it absolutely rocks
Whether it's better/worse than similarly priced AP/Brembo gear is a matter for alot of discussion, but I can't fault them now I'm running new DS2000 pads. And the Prodrive logo is cooler than the AP one IMHO.

Well Lambo, I`ve only owned the car a few months, but after screaming around in it i`ve been less than impressed with the spongy and unresponsive feel in the brake pedal, apparantly this can be improved with a selection of pads and quality fluid, but if your going to do the job why not do it properly, although 1600 quid is a bit steep.

I'm with the Chuckster.
Had my long awaited Alcons fitted yesterday by Cheam Motors - still bedding in so can't talk about performance yet- but lookswise they're the mutt's nuts .
I finally underlined my other half's belief in my uncurable sadness by leaving for work today, walking past the car and then coming back for a lingering look.
She says it's just a car, but what does she know

Robo, do you have 17in wheels with enough clearance on your MY98 for the Prodrive Alcons to fit behind? They won't fit behind the standard MY98 16in wheel and there are some 17in wheels (Speedlines included) they won't fit behind either.

Robo,
Might be worth shopping around abit. I was quoted about £1500 to have the Prodrive kit fitted.
I was a bit lucky to find a part worn AP Racing kit for £1000!
Where are you based?

Andy,
Thanks mate for trying to save me money, but i`m based in Cumbria(red neck county), very limited with dealers nearest one Carlisle, but the upside is we have some belter roads to put it all to the test.

Robo,
Have had mine on the car since last July. Kit was fitted then with the DS3000 pads which has been well documented about the wear on the discs and the dust contamination to the tyres.
My wheels/discs and pads have now been replaced under warranty to DS2000's. These have better cold bite but don't ultimatley stop as well as the DS3000. Still, you won't be disapionted but make sure the correct pads are used.
You will really have to practise to recalibrate your thinking about braking points as this kit will let you brake soooo late, at first it won't seem feasable.

Thanks for the picture Steve - much appreciated. They look fantasic !
I have read much about warped discs - do these suffer from that problem - or does that only occur from v. heavy stops from stone cold ??
Stan
PS does anyone know if they fit under Stilauto 17" SR500's ??

Thanks SteveB
Yes I have sti 4pots and the rims obviously clear those, so I should be OK on the 330's ?
Does the kit include steel braided hoses (cos I wouldn't need them)?
Thanks again for all the help
