I am about to put hand in pocket and buy some new alloys/tyres.

Can anyone recommend a treatment for them which will make there cleaning easier and help to prolong there life.

Is there a wax or polish treatment that you can recommend.

Hi Anthony,

I think as long as you keep them clean at all times you will be ok. You need to keep the brake dust off them, so once in a while take em off and wash the backs. ( Soap and water ) is fine.

Yeh at least once a week otherwise the brake dust will leave marks n u will also get tar spots. Soap n water won't remove this, then you'll need wonder wheels alloy cleaner or alike. I put autoglym resin polish on mine after each wash, this helps cleaning no end and protects them well.

Best thing to do is wax the wheels completely before you put them on (Swissol is best, but for wheels any wax should do). When you clean the wheels always do the insides as well, this helps reduce the build up of brake dust which would normally run out when it rains. Once every month give the wheels a wax on the outside. and if you only use the wheels over the summer (6 months) when you take them off give them a good clean and wax completely so that they are ready to put back on the car for the next summer

AutoGlym do a new product now. Sorry can't remember the name, but it's a polish for alloy wheels and makes it very easy to remove any brake dust etc from the wheels.
Have used this myself and found it very good.

Also, I would not recommend wonder wheels. I have found it to be very corrosive on my wheels and particularly on the wheel nuts.

I Wash the car (and wheels of course) once a week and then have my wheels off every month for a T-Cut and Polish front and back, that keeps the brake dust from and tar from taking over!! Just refurbed the wheels so extra care will be taken now!!

Wonderwheels is fine, just read the instructions All you have to do is make sure you rinse it off after 5mins with warm water.

I used Wonder Wheels on my old classic and it sent my nuts rusty too!

Never left it on longer than 2 minutes either. Warm water with car shampoo every week and there's no need to use wheel cleaner.

Try bubble bath instead that should stop your NUTS GOING RUSTY. LOL

I couldny wait the month so went for a bigger size, got the 18"s fitted today. I reckon they look the nuts.

I guess I will have to add an extra 1/2 hour to the weekly cleaning of the car just to keep the wheels clean.
