I'm using Black Diamond x-drilled and grooved discs all round, with Mintex 1155 pads.

Like many other combinations available, the things squeal like a very loud stuck pig, when cold mostly.

I'm just wondering if this occurs in front of one of the boys in blue, whether it would involve any warning, request for rectification, etc ?

Anyone else come foul of this situation?

(Sorry Stuart - I'd ask my dad but he's always on duty at the moment, it seems!).

Squizz,

I've had brake squeal in the past and i found that if you get yourself a small tube of copper grease. Spread a thin layer of it on the BACK of the pad, where it contacts the
piston or caliper, NOT THE FRICTION SIDE! (Don't laugh-- I've heard of it happening!)
It dampens the pads' vibrations, which (I'm theorizing) transfer to the rotor, which then resonates.
Works for me...

p.s. > How do you find the Black Diamond Discs ? I'm looking at putting a set of Combi front discs on MY95 WRX.

Thanks Neil, but "I'm all greased up ! " (Ooerr)

So it's not that. Unless there's been enough heat to dissapate the original lot. Nah. Can't be surely?

Got my disks from Revolution in Newcastle. I personally had a lot of trouble with them, so I would advise buying from elsewhere.

Apart from that, a scooby friend of mine thinks I'm braking much later than I used to. I can't notice any real difference, except that I'm sure they don't fade as before and they look damn sexy!!

Cheers,
Squizz.

If your brakes are squealing to the police, what offences have you been committing?? - and do you want to make a confession to Stuart??

You could take all the money the police pay to your brakes for the information and get your self a set of AP's

Cool

Any references to my being a Police Informer are sub-judicy and should be directed toward my solicitor.

Lightbulb

squizz,

Hello m8, well! well! what a coincidence, I myself have also bought the same combination of brakes and pads from our good friends at Rev's, and YES a get the same problem!

When I got them fitted I allowed 200 mile to bed in (man that was hard!) than notices squeaking which really pissed me off! I check the brakes no copper ease was applied, so I called Rev I enquired and I was told Black D state this should not be applied as it causes caliper sticking prob's etc.

so I applied the grease anyway it helped but I still get the prob from the rear driver side wheel when I am braking light about to come to a total stop. I know how you feel, the cars looking fat and all that, there are people around, you need to stop at the light to let some ladies cross and you get SSSSSSQQQQQQQwwwwEEEEEEaaaaaKKKKK! feking hell!!!

The funny thing is that I made sure I asked the question fist to rev before buying "DO they squeak? I don't want pads that squeak" no, no was the reply, I found them really helpful as well!

I was also reading the report about brakes and Mintex are know to squeak, but good brakes, they produce a lot of dust and are very hard on the discs, just as well you changed the those as well.

The next set I will be getting will be the Ferrado one a bit more dosh but worth it.

I hope this help's m8

Unhappy

Thanks guys.

TopCat - We'll just have to put up with people looking worriedly in their mirrors for a bit, eh?

I kinda figured those mintex pads would squeal, as a friend had them before. Must be the harder disks making them even more vocal!

Revolution said no copper grease?? I'm amazed. Mind you, they sent me the wrong front disks first time, and the wrong rear pads twice. (And forgot about my order for two weeks, as well! ).

Hey ho.

I was most interested in whether a police officer could request they be changed for being too loud?!??

Regards,
Squizz.

Glad I read the above, I'm off to Revolution this week to get some "Black Diamond Combi Discs", I'll make sure I don't get the Mintex pads.

Gotta agree with you Topcat, great bunch of lads at Revolution...

I fitted 1155's 2 weeks ago with new discs, they sqeal, after all it is a race pad, mine don't squeal once warmed up. I bought these as they have been recommended by a race team. I do a fare few Track days, and get through a fare few pads in a year, so as long as they brake better than my last pads (DS2000).
Who cares about a lickle squealing, adds to the race car feel.
