Could anybody advise me on the best brake pads to fit to a MY99 4 pot set up.
I don't know which to go for, the RED STUFF by EBC or PAGID BLUE.
I want a pad that will work from cold and be good once the car is being pushed hard.I may do the odd track day but mostly I would prefer a pad for fast road more than track.

Please Help!

Mintex 1155s - equal performance to those listed above, but half the price!

I've heard the DS 4003 pads are good - but never used them myself - similar price to Pagid's

The Mintex 1155's used to be the pads used by Prodrive in the WR packages, they now use Ferodo DS2000's.

I use 1155's and they are quite excellent, a lot better than standard.

Tried several types of pads for Hillclimbing. IMHO mintex are the great.

Not sure about going any more extream on the road than 1155's thou' (ie 1166 or 1177's)

Arron, Mintex 1155s are a proven favourite, so can't be bad (although not tried them myself). They used to be Prodrive's favourite too, and supplied as a warranted upgrade.

But Prodrive are now supplying Ferodo DS2000 pads as the warranted upgrade, publicly siting several improvements (on this site). I've used them, and was extremely impressed. They work from cold, and still work at track day temperatures. The only disadvantage is price which is a bit high and they're available only from Prodrive via your friendly local dealer.

But although the pads might be great, the standard MY99 discs are still sh!te. And what the the pads do is allow you to make them even hotter. If your're planning to go anywhere near a track, you must upgrade the discs too. Again Prodrive can supply the necessary - also pricey but again keeps your warranty intact.

There are two main differences between DS2000 and 1155 pads, that are worthy of mention.

When both types of pad are used at temps in excess of their operating range, two completely different things happen...

DS2000 pads will wear at an increased rate but will maintain their performance to the end, 1155 will glaze. Wear will be negigable, but the performance will be far lower than what you are used to. Over time, this will return, but a de-glazing excerise is probably required after every track day.

Grooved discs will help.

Out of the two, I prefer the feel of DS2000 and would prefer a pad which maintained performance, albeit with a shorter life if really hammered.

I have used 1155 and 1166 on road cars and would take those warnings with a pinch of salt. Both were fine from stone cold, although the 1166's made a loud grinding sound in traffic (better than squealing).

As for performance, 1155 or DS2000 could never be put in the same group as Pagid. IMHO the best pads ever invented.

Pete, sorry to sound thick but which pads are you referring to as the best ever invented? Is it the Pagids? If so, which ones and why? Thanks - I need some soon!
