Std 16" Wheels but which tyre...
#1
Okay i know its been done to death of what tyre to put on a standard wheel and at the moment i'll be buying some SO2's on saturday from Micheldever tyres (£106 each all in).
3 Questions...
1) should I even consider any other tyre such as Goodyear F1?
2) should i consider a lower profile than 205/50 ?
3) is £106 a good fair price for SO2s
Any quick thoughts as i'm shelling out on saturday would be appreciated.

You'll be hard pressed to get cheaper than Micheldever for S-02s.
The S-02s can wear a fair bit, if driven hard, but are the mutts nutts. Also there's the softer sidewalls giving more lean in corners.
The F1s are worth considering because they are pretty cheap -- I think about £70 all inc from Wembley Tyres.
You don't want to change the profile unless you like an inaccurate speedo.
If you haven't tried S-02s before, give them a go and see how you fare. You won't be dissapointed with the amount of grip if you've been running on OEM tyres until now.

Jason,
Let me know what you think of the S02's on the standard 16 inch wheels?
I was thinking of getting 17 inch wheels and then going for those type of tyres but it is an additional expense upgrading to 17".
I have read that the 16 inch S02's are not in favour and people recommend getting the 17 inch fitments.
Let me know once you have had the tyres for a few weeks and if the comments are favourable, I may go for the 16 SO2's instead of upgrading to the bigger wheels.

I got 16" SO2's on my STi when the original fit tyres died (RE010's). Contrary to popular opinion I thought they were very good tyres on 16" and if you can't afford the 17" upgrade, they're a good choice.
I've now got 17"s on my car with SO2s and they are a very very good tyre although it's hard for me to judge as I got the suspension done at the same time so I can't really tell you the absolute difference in feel.
Having said that, it seems that some batches of tyres are better than others so it could be in the lap of the gods a bit... I think my advice would be to go 17" IF you can afford it but if you really can't, don't fret about putting 16" SO2s on.

I'm 205/50x16" S-02's and I'm very happy with them.
Autocar's annual tyre test (back in December) rated the Goodyear Eagle F1 just about on par with the S-02 on a 16" wheeled Scoob. Apparently they are excellent in the wet but the S-02 is a better all-rounder. Haven't tried them myself though.
