Question

I cannot believe that a new WRX (16" wheels) comes with 2 pots, when the uk MY00 comes with 4 pots - but that seems to be the case.

Can anyone recommend brake upgrades without going as far as £1500? - the setup needs to be sutable for track/airfield days (although not racing).

What price would I be looking at for wilwood or sti 4-pots, and are these likely to be good enough?

Thanks

I purchased the Tarox 6 pot setup second hand from Mike Tuckwood. I believe the new asking price is around £1200.00.

It is the Dogs undercarriage, no fade amazing stopping power, and they look the nuts as well.

Read an article in Banzai or somewhere about a Guy who has a 212mph Skyline and tried every brand of brakes to find the only ones that could do the job were the TArox 6 potters.

Not much saving on the AP/Brembo, but £300.00 is the equivalent of 120 pints of larger, a couple of services, or a new turbo timer and boost guage.............nice.

Thumbs up

Hi Spec in Dartford do a big disc upgrade using your own calipers (or with wilwood 4 pots)

I have the 315*28mm grooved discs with standard calipers and this has made a huge difference, more braking power and less fade, can't remember the exact price but it was less than £500.

(I also have a similar setup on the back)

Pnebbs,

Have you any idea what the price would have been if you wanted new calipers (eg wilwood) as well as disks and pads?

gregh,
I've looked at the thread, and thought that most of the options suggested were for upgrading the std 4 pots. Since I've only got 2 pots, I thought it may be necessary for me to get a new kit, rather than just disks and pads.

Scott,
Do the Tarox 6 pot setup fit stdf 16" wheels? If so, this looks like a good alternative to those considering AP and Brembo, although I'm still hoping to spend a lot less myself.

Triggaaar

IIRC the wilwood superlight 4 pots with 335*32mm discs were about £700+VAT including pads, discs, bells, brackets and stainless lines?

This fits 17" wheels, there is a smaller version (I'm not sure what size, I think 315mm) that fits 16" wheels

The standard caliper set includes, EBC pads, discs, bells, brackets and fitting for £500 including VAT

Paul
(Wilwood do Superlight and Dynalight calipers, the dynalites are quite small and no improvement over the standard 2 pots)

PS No offence to anyone I hope but I've seen TAROX calipers taken apart - its obvious why they are cheap! (Just look at the pistons)

pnebbs,

Out of interest, do the Wilwood calipers your are talking about have all the necessary seals to make them safe and legal for road use?

As far as I can remember, the Wilwoods have the seals for the pistons, and their website specifically mentions the seals

Willwood have a new brake kit comming out v.soon.This is a 6pot set up with all the seals, diffrent size pistons for equal pressure and so on.

Geoff at HI-SPEC has assured me it will fit behind std 16inch wheels, with a disk size of 315mm/30mm.

Not sure of the price yet but should be under a grand.

Greg,

Yes - standard P1 brakes are the same as MY00 & STi.

Going rate tends to be about 400 quid for an unused set, a little less if they have some miles on them.

Cool

Obviously it depends on the disks and pads used, and those available depends on you initial setup, but from what I've read so far,
Anyone with 2 pots has not been satisfied.
Those with the std MY00/sti4/P1 4 pots have been happy for general road use, but have needed more for track days (maybe I need to go further than this at the first attempt).
Anyone with AP or Brembo has been totally happy, even with a lot of track use (but they ain't cheap).

Do the wilwood superlight 4 pots for 16" wheels offer much more than the std 4pots? and has anyone had track/airfield day experience with wilwood, or simillar brakes?

Paul,
So you're not impressed with the Tarox - do you think it's going to collapse with use or something?

Has anyone had any problems with Tarox?

Paul,

Do you have a website url, email adress or normal adress/tel# for Hi-spec so I can contact them about the disc upgrade using the OE 4-pots.
