Mornin' all.
the 94 WRX Wagon seems to be giving my nice front alloys a nice thick covering of brake dust, is this normal? Does this indicate that new pads/discs are required?
Is there anything I can do to stop this, maybe fit those plastic cover type things between the wheel and brakes??
Any kind of trye laquer help?

Excessive Dust I find means 1 of 2 things, you are using the brakes very hard [Track Days] or the pads are on the way out.
DONT fit the plastic brak covers that go inside your wheels, the brakes will over heat and the plastic thing will melt !!.
Take the wheels off, Clean the wheels with a good cleaner, I have found Halfords the best so far,[ but I know nothing as they say] cleaning inside the wheels as well as the outer rims, then when the wheels are clean and dry, polish them, Autoglym works well here, not only do you get nice shiny wheels but the dust does not stick
Cheers

I guess I'm using the brake a bit too hard, maybe it's all this stopping from 120 that I'm doing (only joking)
Could, as you say, be that the pads are on the way out.
Gonna give the car a real good clean at the weekend so I'll do the wheels then. I've got some wonder wheels stuff which usually works a treat.

Ring the wax Wizard he sells this spray on lacquer which prevents the brake dust settling, it also makes cleaning easier as the dust that sticks is actually on the layer of lacquer and not stuck to the wheel.
Its called Dr.....?? something or other?

I am not sure I agree with Barge here. My MY00 has collected brake dust since I drove it off the forecourt, as has my mates aswell. On the meets that I have been on it also seems common.
I am sure that brake dust is an indication of the problems Barge has mentioned however don't confuse it with the Scooby characteristic of dusting up.
Otis.

When I picked up my MY00 the wheels were faintly "greasy".
Like a **** I have jet washed them (not the car) in hot soapy stuff.
I must find out what Robinsons put on them. The front wheels now black up quicker than Al Jolson. Hey ho!
