Question

Our '98 Legacy GT came with 205/55R16 tyres and it's time to replace them. Tire Rack has a killer deal on BF Goodrich Comp T/A VR4 for only $67 each, but in size 215/50R16. I know these have a slightly shorter sidewall, but speedometer difference should be minimal. I'm more concerned about the extra width causing problems with rubbing against the inner sidewall. Has anyone had any experience with other-than-stock tire sizes on their Subaru? Tire Rack could not guarantee they would fit, and said even when going to a plus one configuration (17" wheels) they don't recommend wider than a 205 tire.

Question

The Jap spec Legacy GT was 260 BHP
and the GTB was 280 with manual transmission but 260 with Auto. All had twin turbos

If your Legacy is this version of the GT then you could be OK as the GTB came on 215x45x17 tyres. If not the only way might be to fit a set with the dealers agreement he will swap for correct size but dearer tyres.

I fitted to a MY 92 2.2 Legacy the tyres from a MY92 Legacy turbo and they fouled on the suspension strut platform at the rear. Luckily the dealer did the swap I mention above but it cost me about 10% extra, so be careful
