fitting steel braided hoses.

AS I'M NOT THE MOST MECHANICALLY MINDED PERSON IN THE WORLD CAN ANYBODY GIVE ANY TIPS ON FITTING ? I'VE GOT THE BASIC IDEA BUT WOULD APPRECIATE ANY TIPS OR PROBLEMS ANYBODY HAS ENCOUNTERED WHEN FITTING. ALSO THE HOSES THEY SENT ME ( FALKLANDS PERFORMANCE) STATE THERE FOR ABS. MY MY94 HASN'T GOT ABS FITTED. WHEN I RANG THEY SAID THEY HADN'T COME ACCROSS THE PROBLEM BEFORE AND DIDN'T KNOW IF THEY'D FIT. COULDN'T RING GOODRIDGE AS IT'S SATURDAY!! ANYBODY OUT THERE KNOW THE ANSWER? I'D HATE TO REMOVE THE OLD ONES AND FIND THESE DON'T FIT. CHEERS PUMPERS.

Howdy...
Yes the are easy to fit.. the hassle is in bleeding the brakes..takes two people... unless u have self bleed valves fitted (which u wont have)
There is a bolt (bango bolt) at each end.. simply undo them and replace with the new pipe.
I have never heard of a goodridge hose that is designed specifically for ABS. I believe that all their braided hoses are ABS compatible.
I am guessing that the hoses will have a stiffer wall to allow for ABS pulsing (someone correct me if I'm wrong). But all standard goodridge braided hoses use teflon pipes....as standard...
But check anyways...

Hi,
I enquired about braided hoses for my last car (Cavalier) and the guy said 'You don't want to do that mate'. Demon Tweeks I think. The reason was that the standard rubber hoses flex and absorb the ABS pulses - apparently with steel hoses there is vastly increased noise. Can't say I've noticed since I had it done to the Scoob.
I believe that the hose arrangement at the wheel is identical for ABS and non-ABS brakes - it is just for the above reason that some people don't recommend steel hoses.
IMHO of course....not that I'm ever wrong!

J,
He could bleed it on his own using an EasiBleed system, couldn't he?
The EasyBleed attaches to the fluid reserve and uses air pressure (from a tyre) to pressurise the bleeding process. Seems to do the job nicely on most cars. Gunnsons maker it and it's less than £20.

OK Moray... if you insist
A 94 has the old big top fluid reservoir and won't get a compatable lid from Gunson. In fact the supplied selection won't fit a post 97 either.
I tried to make up something that would work and was more hassle than it was "bleedin" worth.

Use a sykes pickavant bleeding kit, doesnt use a presureised system that more often than not puts air in the fluid, has a one way valve so you can bleed it on your own, costs about £10.
Easy peasy.

Thanks Pete.
My dad's easibleed had an extra adaptor kit and a form to order special fittings, so it might be possible to make it work...I suppose.
Must have a look for this Sykes thingy at halfords-r-us
