Question

I posted this a few days ago in the wrong forum... hence no replies!

Anyone got suggestions regarding the "best" tyre pressures to run at Knockhill this Saturday?
I'll be swapping my wheels from 17" to the original 16" RE010's for the day and would like to get the best out of them. I'd love to keep the 17" on for the morning, but I just can't afford to shred them and buy a new set of 215/40 R17 SO2's this month!!!

P.S
Other info you may need... It's a MY98 with no mods to suspension or geometry.

Hi

I've been experimenting with tyre pressures for about 3 months with P Zero's on 17 inch wheels. I am finding that the best wet grip is attained at pressures of about 28/29 psi on the front and about 28 psi on the back. I need to pump the front tyres up to 32/33 in the dry (they seem to squeal less mainly when I do this), and I tend to increase rear pressures to 30. It is very much trial and error and depends on your own personal preference, your suspension set up, and tyre make I would suggest.

If you are using new tyres (on your 16 inch wheels) on a track day and it is dry, you will literally bend the tread blocks over and tear a large percentage of rubber off the tyre what ever pressure you run, but probably the higher the pressure the less roll on the tyre the better. It is sometimes better to use a slightly worn tyre which has been run in for want of a better description (heat cycle I thing the F1 paddock refer).
