Smile Novice needs advice

Hi to all. Have recently purchased my first impreza ( MY97 Estate) and am looking for some advice.

The car is currently standard save for a Hayward & Scott Back Box and a recently ordrered ITG Panel Filter.

Im Looking for subtle mods to the suspension/wheels/Brakes is is standard with 15" wheels at the moment

So 16s or 17's and with what tyre profile?
What Springs would you recommend? Eibachs? Lowering ? How Much?
Ferodods2500's?Mintex?EBC?

any advice appreciated. cheers sid

Dude!!

Sounds just like me a couple of months ago.

Heres what I have gone for.

1) Eibach springs from Scoobyclinic - call Kev and he will tell you how low to go. http://www.scoobyclinic.co.uk

2) 17 wheels are about right for a good ride and looks - 215/40/17 is a bit harsh but corners really well. I'm going for a 205/45/17 next time to try and get a little more comfort ( no comments please)

3) Uprated drop links, whiteline ones front and rear to help the roll bars work properly.

4) Going for a Godspeed brake kit in the group buyb if you are interested.

Hope this helps.

PS I got my wheels from the for sale section at a good price.

Eibachs generally drop the car by about 20mm once they have settled. I found them an excellent compromise for the road.

Mintex are very dusty and have a tendancy to squeel at slow speeds.

EBC greens are too soft and can't take the heat and a lot of people have had problems with the reds ( Though I have herd that they are now using a new compound).

Stick to Ferrodos DS2500 and you wont go far wrong

Once you have changed the wheels you will have a far wider range of brake upgrades availabe (2 pots aren't very good)
The later 4 pot calipers from the MY99> cars bolt straight on using a bigger 294mm disk instead of the 277mm disk with the 2 pots. Need atleast 16" wheels.
Or if you have money to spare and 17" wheels, look into Godspeed 335mm kit using the Subaru 4 pots or Brembo calipers (great value for money) or AP's (£££) etc.
