Can you fit 225/40/17s?

The reason I ask is that the standard size for 16s is 205/50/16 and for 17s 205/45/17 (virtually the same overal diameter)

Tyre choice is crap for 205/45/17 so most people go for 215/40/17 (a bit smaller o/a dia) or 215/45/17 (bit bigger)

So why not 225/40/17 (almost the same o/a dia as standard)?

Maybe problems with rubbing due to extra width?

I have 215 40 17's on my MY95WRX and with it being slightly lowered the tyres scrub on the arches when going over big dips in the road and when 4 up in the car. Just be a bit careful

Come on peeps, is there an established view on this?

Extra grip? better handling? Or do they just rub?

I run 255 40 1s7s on standard ride height and its completely fine.
